"Shuffle-itis"

Just wondering if anybody else is suffering from "shuffle-itis"? I had to stop using my ipod for a bit because I was only listening to less than a minute of a song before skipping to the next! It got so bad that friends banned me from operating the ipod in the car or at parties! So, I decided to take a break and just listen to one album at a time, just like when I was a teenager, and I've actually re-discovered the pleasure of listening to complete albums. At the moment it's "Closing Time" by Tom Waits. Has this happened to anyone else or is it just me?!

i too suffer from this

i too suffer from this problem. And I have not good reason why, am I surching for some music holy grail? Do i need to sit for half and hour with iTunes, and remove a load of stuff I will never listen too?

I'm not sure if that try, because even if it's something i really love I still have this thought in my head '...i wounder whats next...'

Glad i don't suffer alone.

Make yourself!

I refuse to fast forward, having occasionally to go back and delete at a later date. (Yes, that's you, Diamanda Galas)Strangely, tho', whenever anyone else is in the car, it is all they ever do........

About 1 in 10

songs on shuffle are allowed when I'm not alone in the car. I think the rest of my family are wrong though.....

They sound like the tone deaf ingrates....

...circumstance and genes have cast upon me. Them and most of my friends. Thankfully there is the odd erudite appreciator of taste for me to keep a few steps ahead of in the one-upmanship of arcane discoveries called "what sort of music do you like, then"

Tone Deaf Ingrates

are who my family think the music is being made by. They are wrong of course - I believe taste in music is similar to the colour blind gene - its skips generations.

Glad to know...

that someone else does it! I tried not fast forwarding but couldn't stop myself! (lame excuse I know!) I wonder is it something to do with the "you have to hear/see/go to this" reviews and articles that certain magazines run? (Thank God Word doesn't do this! I think!!). Was it like this before music became so easy to get hold of? Do I sound like a grumpy old man?!!

The youtube...

thing is happening to me too! Very soon I'll be surrounded by unfinished books, cds and dvds!! Maybe there should be a helpline set up for this condition!!

In the car

I rely on the 6CD multichanger to provide sufficient variety for shuffling where required.

Can get a bit hairy driving along and actioning a complete 6 disk change, but I'm always careful (honest). Only ever run down two cyclists and one old lady (and that was only a glancing blow).

When my new car arrives in September I'll be able to plug my pod in then, so I'll be in shuffle heave then (22,857 tracks and counting with an upload session imminent).

I'm also...

banned from using the shuffle function by the family! It drives them mental! So I ended up making a playlist that kept everyone happy! It's the most schizo playlist you will ever hear! Miles Davis,Elvis,Mika, Queen,Jeff Buckley,Atomic Kitten etc!

The 5 disc shuffle

Agree with the multidisc comment - over the last few weeks I have found myself making a 5 disc playlist on the weekend to then play on shuffle through the week. New technology mimics trhe old.

This gives a "mood" when total shufle can be just to - errr - shuffley

Andrew2 | 1 July 2008 - 12:27pm

This week I have been mainly listening to...........

The current 5 disc shuffle>>>>>>
Sharon Little - perfect Time For a Breakdown - (recently saw her as support to Robert Plant/Alison Krauss)
My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges
Steve Winwood - Nine Lives
The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
Mavis Staples - We'll Never Turn back

The 5 disc shuffle..

sounds like a good idea, but I'll have to do it with my ipod as I've just inherited a car, and insurance cost put paid to any thought of new car stereo!
