Shout! Come On England!

Dave Amitri's picture

A new World Cup song as seen on Britain's Got Talent tonight. I think it's rather good but what do I know?

I agree

That's made me smile from ear to ear. Come on England.

Amazing

There is no-one - absolutely no-one - who could have carried that off without looking like an almighty item of genital furniture but Mr Rascal. What a genuine superstar he is.

Someone...

has clearly been reading this (and I mean that in a good way)

It's a fun concoction, all buttons pressed and I like the fact Mr Rascal is not afraid to make daft pop records. I like the sub-bass on the verse as well.

Almost made me vaguely interested in the World Cup for a split second....

Isn't the Tears For Fears' song

about primal therapy ?
Well, I guess it couldn't hurt. Better than the astrology that the french manager is into!

He must have given perrmission I suppose...

...but I wonder if the rather intense Roland Orzabal of the early 80s would have been relaxed about his rather personal song about primal therapy used in this way? Given that he's touring with Spandau Ballet at the moment, I guess economic realities win.

It's a billion times better than this...

Denise Johnson from Primal Scream and A Certain Ratio singer doing a re-written Dexy's tune over a sort of late 90s coffee table/M-People stylee. Note the Youtube vid wrongly credits her as the former Happy Mondays singer thus picked up as such by a lazy so and so at the Guardian

It is however, way better than this pile of drivel, written by the current manager of the Fall, for which he has drafted his client in to sing lead vocals. The walkie talkie noises you can hear are presumably a search and rescue team looking for the melody, rhythm and memorable chorus.

Oh hang on a second. ..

This is the one! Apparently this "VOTED THE BEST PARTY ENGLAND SONG" is Black Lace although I don't recognise any of the 'Superman' Hitmakers in this rather terrifying clip.

This video is a staggering bit of social realism, it could almost have been directed by Martin Parr.

It manages to compress everything that I hate about this country into 3 mins 52 seconds. You can almost smell the beery farts. I love the bit where it references the fact that it's for 'Hope for Heroes'..and it cuts to a Hearse.

C'mon Eng...

then I had to hit 'stop'

Without wishing to piss on your fries

but "Come And Have A Go If You Think You're Hard Enough"? That's exactly what England needs its fans singing to make friends in SA.

Crowdedmouse | 6 June 2010 - 5:39am

Agreed

That bit spoils the whole thing for me.

I suppose you could let 'em off for being too young to remember the horrors of the 80s.

On second thoughts no you can't.

Lying Doggo | 6 June 2010 - 3:15pm

Fair point

these are the things we can do without. Come on, I'm talking to you James Cordon come on.

1
Dave Amitri | 6 June 2010 - 4:01pm

Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough???!!!

I absolutely agree. It's a disgrace of a song. And quite frankly, what with the new Mars advert, I've gone right off John Barnes and the World In Motion song. Anyway, what do I care. I've drawn America in the sweep at work. America, F**k Yeah! Coming again to save the MotherF***ing Day Yeah.......me thinks not.

The USA, Slovenian, and Algerian coaches

can now forget about their team talks and just show their sides this clip

Although this is so awful I quite like it...

Is that 'timeless'...

as in 'shit'?

2
Patrick Crowther | 6 June 2010 - 6:43pm

I've said it before,

but I'll say it again...

Come on Deutschland!

0
Adman | 6 June 2010 - 7:28pm

Shout?

Shite.

0
badartdog | 6 June 2010 - 7:55pm

Here's one for Fraser

This is what the All Whites and my kids in their morning assembly are singing.....
It's more a case of "come and have a visit if you fancy having a bit of peace and quiet" rather than "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough"....

Black Grape/Joe Strummer/Keith Allen

Is James Corden the new Keith Allen?
Think this was '96 or '98.

0
Wrighty | 6 June 2010 - 11:15pm

Possibly

Although Keith has never done anything as good as this.
