Sexy French vocals and naked women. The best music video combination ever?

LOUDspeaker's picture

Really good (and rather naked) music video for "Baby Baby Baby" by French electro group Make the Girl Dance. Do not watch at work as it might not look right if someone walks past your computer.

I assume it's a digital creation.

My thinking is that they filmed a steadycam shot through the street. Then they filmed the women in front of a green screen in a studio.

As far as I can tell the first woman is replaced with herself and hands over the radio to her double. I saw a clip of a Kylie music video of two of her walking down a street. The one in front dropped something on the ground for the other to pick up. Same split screen technique as in this video?

On the internet it might not be clear, but on my TV (I watched it on the Virgin+ Music On Demand service) you can sometimes see a black line running vertical down the side of the screen. It might be the split that separates the two different takes?

They may have reversed the image to simplify integrating the women into the street?

I think you may be over-complicating things

It certainly looks like 3 different women to me.

As long as they got the relevant permissions to do it live it would be much easier to just film naked people on the streets. I'm presuming they also would have had security and/or police out of shot behind the camera in case any nutters appeared.

If it were done digitally then what were all the passersby turning to look at and talk about? When the 2nd woman walks out a passerby has to swerve to avoid her, and another bloke nearby, before carrying on down the street out of sight. If that was all done digitally it was very well done, but again it seems far more effort that just to get one steadicam, three models, a stereo and some security guards to do it in one take.

Finally, (not that I intended to write a dissertation!), I assumed that it was reversed so as to make all the logos and names unreadable.

Yes they probably did film it for real.

It just amazes me they could get three women (I concede that she is not a double) to walk down a busy city street 100% naked and not only mime to the words, but also not looked embarrassed.

Although it's worth pointing out that computer effects have advanced in a lot of ways over the last few years without much fuss.

Have you seen David Fincher's Zodiac film? There is a long sequence in a street at the taxi murder crime scene. Later, when watching the extras, there was a clip of the actors with the taxi filming on a green screen stage. Everything else appears to have been created in a computer?! You would never guess by watching the film that they didn't film like normal on a real street. You might be surprised at how much CGI there is in films that look completely bereft of any digital work.

Vanessa Paradis

Her last album "Divine Idylle" was rather good too.

I pity the poor bugger...

...that had to stick the black rectangles over all the passer-bys' eyes.
