Seven Days Too Long. Part 1: Monday...

To-day, songs containing the word Monday;

I'll kick the week off with this:

How does it feel?

Paul Cunningham | 7 July 2008 - 4:38am

I don't like......

Scottie | 7 July 2008 - 5:34am

Blue Monday

Lucas Hare | 7 July 2008 - 7:25am

Inevitably…

Larry Heliotrope | 7 July 2008 - 7:15am

Guess I'll need to be quicker off the blocks!

But then it is Monday morning.

Larry Heliotrope | 7 July 2008 - 7:17am

Oh, I don't know

Looks like a draw. I'll edit mine.

Lucas Hare | 7 July 2008 - 7:25am

Aw, shucks…

You're a regular toff, sir!

OK, here's my last contribution for the day. It's Wilco's Monday

Larry Heliotrope | 7 July 2008 - 7:28am
Scottie | 7 July 2008 - 7:33am

The Fab Four

Karen, Richard, Paul Williams & Joe Osborn. they are “da bomb”. If this is cheese, I’m a mouse.

Richard Lowe | 7 July 2008 - 9:22am

Don't you think there's something "ironic"...

....about pop songs written about Mondays?

They are mostly written by the one section of the population - rock musicians - for whom the concept of Monday has no meaning. If you're say, Sting or Jack White, how is Monday any different from any other day?

You're woken around eleven by your valet proffering herbal tea and a freshly ironed copy of the Wall Street Journal. You have a session with your personal trainer followed by a long soak. You put on some brand new clothes. You take a couple of meetings at which you reprimand various business associates for their shortcomings and demand that somebody move the sun around so that it's not in your eyes, then go and play a few songs for which you're richly rewarded, then go to dinner. Bed around three on Tuesday morning.

Is this how your Monday's shaping up?

David Hepworth | 7 July 2008 - 7:47am

I may well end up falling into bed around three

Tuesday morning if I go for "just a quick one" after work but there the similarities end.

Scottie | 7 July 2008 - 8:31am

Then again

When Fats Domino sings about slaving on the bandstand for his wages, I believe him.

Lucas Hare | 7 July 2008 - 8:35am

Mark Knopfler was

at least honest about it.

Scottie | 7 July 2008 - 8:44am

No, it's not ...

I'm off to the dentist, and yet again I didn't wake up next to Stevie Nicks (1975 model). For a Monday morning song this is quite cheery, I think we know why ....

StevenC | 7 July 2008 - 10:24am

Louis Elliot

Probably never had a job but clearly does have a girlfriend who is chained to the daily grind.

collibosher | 7 July 2008 - 8:24am

In honour of the Cornbury girls...

Bugger! Check the original post before posting your own!

Ok - try an acoustic version...

Paul Waring | 7 July 2008 - 8:31am

Phew

Susanna Hoffs has aged very well.

Lucas Hare | 7 July 2008 - 9:14am

I will never be embarrased about

loving The Jam. A slightly different take on Monday; looking forward to it, on account of some work/school romance. Teenage boys can tend to be snotty and angry; at the same time they tend to be insecure saps. No wonder they loved The Jam. Weller covered all bases. “I will never be embarrased about love again”. What a line.

Richard Lowe | 7 July 2008 - 9:30am

If this is Monday......

....no wonder Tuesdays dead
(Arf arf, the South will rise again,y'all)

Retropath2 | 7 July 2008 - 9:57am

Tuesday dead?!?

Surely everything is Tuesday.

Richard Lowe | 7 July 2008 - 1:38pm

Seven Nights To Rock

Job done....

Nodge1970 | 7 July 2008 - 1:26pm

Rachel Unthank and the Winterset do...

...a great version of this on Cruel Sister -

On a Monday Morning
(Cyril Tawny)

Too soon to be out of me bed,
Too soon to be back to this bus queue caper,
Fumbling for change for me picture paper,
On a Monday morning.

Oh, where has the weekend gone?
Oh, where are the wine and the beer I tasted?
Gone the same way as the pay I wasted,
On a Monday morning.

If only the birds were booze,
If only the sun was a party giver,
If I could just give someone else me liver,
On a Monday morning.

My lover she lies asleep,
My lover is warm, and her heart is mellow,
I'd give the whole world just to share her pillow,
On a Monday morning.

Mr Drayton | 7 July 2008 - 2:30pm

One of my favourite Jam

One of my favourite Jam songs that, Richard. Love the little situation implied in the lyric, the young lad who's gutted it's Friday night because he won't see the girl he's infatuated with at school/work for a few days.
