SECOND BEST Double Album EVER

JeffLeopard's picture

...well?

We need to get this straightened out, once and for all.

Is it

Blonde on Blonde?
Bitches Brew?
Exile?
Songs in the Key of Life?
Ooh Las Vegas?
Works vol 1?

or any others? Help me out

It's Manassas

by Stephen Stills

Think we did a double entendre, er, album, thread pretty recently. But this gives it and gives it good

Oh by the way, the first best - isn't

A great album

This, his work with Buffalo Springfield and his first couple of solo albums show how much talent Stills had and the shame of him drinking and drugging his muse into the stunted form displayed in later works.

Dont know about the second best

but the best is definitely Sign of the times.

0
Steve Turner | 18 October 2009 - 5:11pm

The Clash

Given that London Calling is the best double album ever for me, then the second best has to be The Who and Quadrophenia.

No contest...

It's Tales From Topographic Oceans. Songs In The Key Of Life takes the top spot.

Handsome.P.Wonderful | 18 October 2009 - 5:30pm

Good on you

for Topographic! Unfairly maligned work of genius wasted on the attention span lacking.

0
RobertC | 18 October 2009 - 5:36pm

Good Lord

You Prog fellows aren't kidding.
Blimey

0
JeffLeopard | 18 October 2009 - 7:12pm

No no no...

Completely fairly maligned. Could have been edited down into a really nice single album if the egos had allowed. And this from an inveterate prog and Yes fan!

Given your choice

of No 1, I find your choice of No 2 quite remarkable.
Not a criticism, at all, I'm applauding your eclecticism although I don't particularly care for either of them.

Carl Parker | 18 October 2009 - 5:52pm

According to my wife...

...I have a very catholic taste in music.

0
Handsome.P.Wonderful | 19 October 2009 - 8:45am

Blonde on Blonde

without exception.

0
RobertC | 18 October 2009 - 5:31pm

Tusk

Still played regularly in these parts 30 years since its release. Still astonishing.

0
Rufus T Firefly | 18 October 2009 - 5:49pm

The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway

Still hearing new bits on it every time I play it, these three decades on.

2
Molesworth | 18 October 2009 - 5:53pm

Saturday Night Fever

soundtrack of course.

0
ChaileyJem | 18 October 2009 - 6:39pm

Prince - Sign O The Times

A truly great album with no duff tracks

0
Uncle Wheaty | 18 October 2009 - 7:23pm

erm

The Cross?

0
JeffLeopard | 18 October 2009 - 11:00pm

my favourite trackon the album

towering.

0
Junior Wells | 19 October 2009 - 3:52am

You're all wrong! It's.....

..."Goodbye Yellow Brick Road".

0
bigsteviecook | 18 October 2009 - 9:07pm

That is a great album

Pity he went on to become so, well, Eltonish.

0
David Cooper | 19 October 2009 - 9:10am

might i suggest

luambo makiadi aka Franco

live afro european tour

0
Junior Wells | 18 October 2009 - 9:42pm

Electric Ladyland..

can't say no duff tracks as Redding's weedy Little Miss Strange is on there. But a terrific performance, all told. Cool, Jimi.

0
Declan | 18 October 2009 - 9:43pm

Nick Cave

The Lyre of Orpheus/Abatoir Blues is very, very good.

2
Nick | 19 October 2009 - 12:31am

no relation?

endorse sentiment

0
Junior Wells | 19 October 2009 - 1:16am

second best double album

all things must pass without the third record

0
Shells | 19 October 2009 - 10:45am

I'd agree with that

It really didn't need to be a triple album.

0
Handsome.P.Wonderful | 19 October 2009 - 12:30pm

Was there ever a triple that *needed* to be?

ATMP - definitely not
Sandinista! - definitely not
Santana's 'Lotus' - definitely not
Yessongs - probably not
Welcome Back My Friends - possibly not
