Scritti...meet The Massive

Dr Volume's picture

I know from previous discussions on here that there are a lot of fans of the mighty Scritti Politti among the Massive so I'm surprised there hasn't been more of a buzz on here about their forthcoming Word in Your Ear gig. I'm tremendously excited about seeing a band I never thought I'd see live, in one of my favourite London venues. The gig has now sold out anyway but I'm wondering how many Massive members will actually be there.
I know from the latest Mingle thread that I'll be rubbing shoulders with the mighty DogFacedBoy and Mike_H on the night but I can't help thinking if we're the only representatives from Planet Word there will be a pub full of hardcore Green Gartside fans wondering why someone who looks like the bloke from Whistle Test keeps getting on stage and going on about 'The Massive' and trying to raffle some of Frasers chutney and a Pineapple. Anyone else joining us?

Sadly not

those who have tickets for this one are very lucky indeed. I was fortunate to catch them live at the Luminaire in Kilburn about four years ago (there are some clips on YT). It's really something special to hear that voice in a live situation. I wish I could be there.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I have a ticket for the Eliza Carthy et al Word In Your Ear gig this coming Monday. It's yours for nowt, so send me a note if you want it.

I woz tempted

to meet up with fellow Leeds Poly student Mr. Gartside but that London is sooo far away. Fill your boots and swing your pants for all of us.

I'll be there

I had the great pleasure of seeing them outside the Tate Gallery on a warm barmy London evening a few years ago. It was a fab gig and I was blown away that the vocals lived up to the high standards of his records. I'm really looking forward to the gig.

perhaps

there'd have been more interest if it wasn't yet another Word event in London and thus not easily attendable by the majority of readers!!

Yes

cos the thing about London is that its so badly connected to the rest of the country. C'mon the Word staff have to cross the road, you should make the effort to travel too

I'll be there too......

.....as long as my flight from Spain isn't delayed.

Does anyone have a link to the original 12 inch Flesh and Blood with Ranking Ann (not the remix on youtube).

Thanks.

Jealous!

Tuneyards, Jonathan Richman and Scritti Pollitti all playing this month or soon. Dieing to see all of three of them live but don't live on mainland UK. Very jealous.

Yes

I will be there, but not sure exactly what time I'll be arriving as I have to wait for Mrs B to get back from her book group. Does anybody know what time bands usually start and finish playing at these things?

Sounds like a good night

But, alas, Scritti Politti at the Hebden Bridge Trades Club on a hopefully balmy night in early August sounds better.

I saw Double Gee and the Traitorous Three at the Manchester Academy in autumn 2006. The Word "Girl" live and the joy of the latest album were the undoubted peaks. They were brilliant.

I went to the Trades Club as the last port of call on a pub crawl around Hebden in January 2010. Guinness at less than two quid a pint and a tremendous laissez-faire attitude meant I had to run for the last train back to Manchester. It was brilliant.

So all told, the two combined should be... brilliant.
