Scottish football (don't look if not interested)

Hearts' owner Vlad Romanov surpasses himself with the latest official statement on the club's website
http://www.heartsfc.co.uk/articles/20120105/vladimir-romanov-statement_2...

(No, I do not support Hibs.)

He's an erse

The sooner we get shot of him from Scottish football then the better.

He's looking for £20 mil (aye, right) for them but I suspect he'd be lucky to get 5. With most of that being based on player values, which they are in danger of losing for nowt due to breaches of contract over unpaid wages. With a bit of luck he'll realise that soon and cut and run.

In any case I fear there is mucho pain and turbulence ahead for Hearts - going bust/being deducted points seems almost enevitable, and the firesale of the players will accelerate during January - look out for the brothers sectarian picking the carcass after anyone good enough for the top two divisions in England has been punted with indecent haste.

Could be back to the Meadows to start again.

I do support Hibs

and in the light of our current form, Vlad is the light in the gloom, the gift that never stops giving. Thanks for bringing this up.

For those unfamiliar with his work, his closing paragraph gives a fair taste:
"The progress is there - Mowgli is under prosecution and in exile. But until they open a zoo for the monkeys and keep them in cages, they will keep jumping on people who are straightforward and not afraid to speak."

Totally bat merde crazy Indeed

But I also take your point from the Hibbee perspective. Rod Petrie must wake up every morning and give thanks for the Baltic lunatic as he deflects attention from his rather ridiculous fumblings over the last few years.

Given the fact that the Capitals two clubs are barely limping along, and Aberdeen are even worse, I have a sneaky suspicion we may be entering some sort of end game for Scottish football soon. We canny go on offering up pants entertainment in a 2 horse league in the depth of winter for much longer - surely the whole thing has got to go bust at some point?

The only silver lining I suppose would be watching the Old Firm wallow in England (if they let them in). They should be careful what they wish for.

not England surely

The kind of sectarianism associated with the Old Firm, should be quarantined and not exported elsewhere. Mind you, it would be good to see both getting hammered every week in England.

Totally agree Mr Wezz

Both clubs offer a ready platform for some pretty unsavoury and extreme politics (not to mention racism/sectarianism) from the North of Ireland, and the good folk of Englandshire would be mad to give them a bigger stage on which to desport themselves.

Most of us have been sick of it for years, and finally El Presidente Salmondo and his crew are aiming to stamp it out by bringing in some (admittedly pretty draconian) legislation to allow the mass lifting of anyone indulging themselves.

It is measure of how much they are loathed in Scotland that most of us are prepared to put up with the infringement of civil liberties if it finally puts a stop to them. The squealing and quoting of Voltaire in support of free speach, from people more used to singing songse in praise of kneecappers, is rich with irony.

But I suppose money might talk.

As a wise man once said

'Money doesn't talk, it swears'. So, unfortunately, you may be right. I once attended a Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park and was surprised at the vehemence of the sectarianism. It does need to be eradicated from both Northern Ireland and Scotland.

And I support the Blue Brazil

Usually you would hump us, piggers, but I wouldn't think you guys are looking forward to a visit to the miserable Central Park on Saturday?

0
peterafifer | 5 January 2012 - 6:37pm

No we're not

I know of a few seasoned veterans/go every game/etc who are studying the attractive odds that are being offered for the BB to get a result.

I suppose you could call it some sort of financial insurance to cover the emotional cost.

He makes Ken Bates look good*

* No he doesn't. Ken Bates is my least favourite human being. That is assuming he is actually a human being.

Taking his statement at face value...

...Hearts are screwed.

"I thought I had expressed myself clearly - I am selling the club and I am not going to give any more money away. It is pointless to support show business, not football. Hearts is now living out of its own budget."

That means that Hearts are to be self-funding from now on. Given that they could only meet the payroll for last month by receiving money for a player sold for £250,000 (apparently), that doesn't bode well for next month. Unless they can sell a lot of their players before the transfer window closes, they may not have enough money to see them through to the end of the season. The problem is, why would a club buy a player now, when they can pick them up for next-to-nothing (or even nothing) in an insolvency scenario? The value of their players is plummeting.

The Old Firm

I'm no lover of either clubs/supporters but if they were allowed into the English leagues(they should start in League 2)they would be amongst the biggest clubs in Europe- based on their fanbases and expected income, within five years

The Above....

...is true.
Given the money that the English Premiership generates for their clubs, should The Evil Twosome (aka The Old Infirm) actually get there, yes they would be big players, which is precisely the reason that particular scenario would never be allowed to happen.
Is anyone aware of the fact that Glasgow is the only city in Europe that boasts three stadia with a capacity of over 55,000?
Yep, not London, Manchester, Paris, Munich, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Rome,Moscow but Glasgow.

big support + big money = trophies

Yes, that would explain all of those trophies that Newcastle United have won over the last 40 years or so.

DC Eisenhower | 5 January 2012 - 9:14pm

Yep

Good point, El Presidente.

Exactly, I think "Old Firm biggest clubs in world" snash

is wildly overestimated. Big in Scotland maybe, but if you factor in the "glory hunting plaster beetles" and "lazy religious/national allegiance" factors I think a move to England would really show how limited their core support is.

Having to play on a level field with lots of bigger boys would soon see off the former. Whilst the latter assumes that there is a world of Irish/and uber Brits champing to support them out there. In both cases I think it is bizarre.

Newcastle are the biggest club...

In Newcastle

0
Fuzzy | 5 January 2012 - 10:58pm

London

has Wembley, Emirates and Twickenham, all of which are capable of staging matches if required.

Agree with the rest!

When you read that statement...

you can only presume that he is dictating it to the Hearts Media Officer whilst holding some sort of revolver to their head!
