Same Title, Different Song
Posted by Macca99 on 27 July 2009 - 8:47am.
Some songs with the same title can be so different - St. Elmo's fire by Eno (v.good) and John Prine (v.bad).
Some with the same title can both be great - Come Together by the Beatles and Spiritualized
And some - Power of Love by Jennifer Rush, Huey Lewis and FGTH -can all be shite (all in the same year as well, what a downer '84 was)

A pedant writes...
Do you mean John Parr? The one that was actually a hit?
oh bugger
knew i should have googled it....
Glad you pointed that out.
The name 'John Prine' and the phrase 'v. bad' are never even in the same room together.
From Hello in There
..to St Elmo's Fire in around 15 years? John Parr I think you mean.
Didn't Primal Scream
have a song called "Come Together" as well? - and FGTH's Power of Love is a classic.
And Blur
on Leisure
Temptation
New Order & Heaven 17. Both great.
The Beach Boys
did both All I Want To Do (on 20/20) and All I Wanna Do (on Sunflower). I think I prefer the latter.
And...
The Dave Clark Five had UK hits with two different songs entitled Everybody Knows. Likewise Mario Lanza did the same with the title Serenade.
Cliff Richard had hits with both Livin' Lovin' Doll and Livin' Doll.
Miles Davis recorded two instrumentals with the titles Milestones and another two with the titles Miles Ahead. The second of each were issued on albums of the same title.
Show Me
Joe Tex, ABC and Dexys. All three great tunes!
Turn to Stone
ELO & Joe Walsh
How about Different Title, Same Song*? Alice Cooper had a song called Reflected on an early record which he rerecorded with different words as Elected on Billion Dollar Babie if I remember correctly.
* without mentioning Status Quo
Without wishing to come across as an arse
