Rufus Wainwright
I saw the above mentioned show tune starlet last week in Liverpool, and despite only knowing a smattering of his work so far, was blown away by the music, the show, but mostly by his voice. Not a bum note, not even close.
He mutters a bit and likes to slur his words, but the way he hits the hardest notes, sliding through the octaves like a wee small boy on his knees at a family wedding, was a thing of beauty.
I don't know anyone else who has been to see him, or seen a review of the shows, and was keen to hear at least one other opinion of his tour.
Anybody. At all?

Rufus! Rufus! Rufus!
I've seen him four times now, didn't catch the last tour though.
Apart from his slight foghorn tendencies, I think he's a genius. He's funny, his tunes are sublime, his lyrics at times are just on the right side of 'what's he on about?' so you listen and try to figure them out and he knows how to Entertain. For me, the last album has been his weakest, Wants One and Two being his best, though Posies is pretty good too. I love him, as only a man can love another man who is a pop star that he's never met can.
I've also seen him about 4
I've also seen him about 4 times. I agree with most of what Mr Drayton said, but I find his voice a bit much after an hour or so. Also, the last time I saw him the band came back out for the encore dressed as fairies and I have found his shows have become a bit too much like camp cabarets. Hence the missus is going to see him tonight and I'm babysitting!
Can I just say...
...I caught him at Glastonbury this year and winced through his excruciatingly embarrassing Garlandesque mime through 'Get Happy', preceded by the underwhelming duet of 'Hallelujah' with his sister.
Genius? Oh please. The lad can (just about)carry a tune. Marc Almond has more genuine ability in his little finger and Eddie Izzard could teach him a hell of a lot about the best way in which to wear women's clothing.
Anyway, miming is for talentless pop divas, yes? Ah, right.
Hang on...is that *the* Matt Johnson on drums...?
The lovely Rufus swayed Ipswich this evening and was deeply smashing in all respects. Apart from one, rather disturbing, point. It wasn't until (hey, it was the last night of the tour, I'm not giving anything away here) Mr Wainwright appeared for the encore in tights, heels, diamante earrings, hastily applied lipstick and wearing a cheeky titfer at a jaunty angle that my good lady wife and I turned to each other and simultaneously remarked "Ooh, doesn't he look like his Dad...!!". Don't tell Loudon.
