At the risk of dwelling too much on how quickly time passes, it is twenty years since the death of Roy Orbison. Just saying.

The Greatest Singer In Rock N Roll History ?
If he wasn't he must be close
The sad thing is...
...he was genuinely on something of a comeback before his death, what with the Wilburys stuff and the 'Mystery Girl' album. The latter album has some material as good as his old 60s songs in my opinion.
Agreed
Although it was Let It Be'd by ghastly production. I saw him live at the Mean Fiddler on that last tour. With just a basic band behind him it was, quite simply, sublime.
I was there too
Second of two nights and his last appearance in the UK if memory serves. It was, indeed, a great show and he had the good sense and humility to let one of the other singers take the high notes.
While we're on the subject – not that I'm one to bear a grudge or anything, but – did you spill my pint, Archie?
A case...
...of the 'Jeff Lynne drum sound', wasn't it? I seem to recall T- Bone Burnett also produced some songs on it though.
Look out for T-Bone...
...in the above clip. Among others, of course.
Friday Night
BBC4 has a Roy Orbison "Night" on Friday 12 Dec
21:00 onwards
The Big O
As I've said before, he made other singers sound like talkers, he immortalised perhaps the finest song that Bono will ever write in "She's A Mystery Girl" and he made what is one of the greatest singles of all time in "It's Over".
radio 2
have a three part documentary about him on at the moment the first episode was interesting about his early life and his developement etc
Ooby Dooby Brothers
This is well worth a look for two reasons...
The guitar interplay between Roy, Bruce and James Burton and then at 3.20 the look Burton gives Orbison after Tom Waits's keyboard solo.
A Black and White Night
One of those live albums that's a bit dull to listen to but wonderful to watch. Surely, that must be among the best line ups ever assembled on a stage.
