Ross/Brand - Debate a little over the top
The herd are stampeding. 10,000 complaints and counting. I finally listened to to the tape this morning.
Yes they were out of order (although the way it was reported made it seem to be nasty and vindictive, and while it maybe nasty it was certainly not vindictive) and the initial apology was a little pathetic.
Personally in the last few years I've gone off J Ross and the constant love affair he has with his ego. Russell Brand is over the top and certainly not as funny as he was or as he likes to think he is. His love affair with his di*k just gets a little bit boring after awhile. He certainly doesn't strike me as a malicious human being. Hare Krishna!
My warning signals start going off when Prime Ministers and Leaders of the Opposition and their cohort of MP's get involved.
Something to take the shitstorm they've created in the economy off the front pages perhaps.
Is it just me or do you get the scent of publicity stunt in the air? As I said I don't condone the antics of the pair, just lets say you probably never heard of Georgina Baillie and the Satanic Sluts before now. I could of course be wrong but I find when the herd are running loose, sometimes its worth stopping to see what exactly is driving them.

At last...
a voice of reason! Check the timeline, for 4 days no one gives a **** until the Daily Mail chime in!

Of course Ross's biography is about to come out.
More to the point - there are already two threads going on this. Why have you started a third?
Simply because
The lunatics seem to have taken over the asylum and lost the run of themselves. I just want to point out that to me there seem to be other forces at play here rather than a stupid cockup that got out of hand.
Thank you, thank you, thank you
You've just restored my faith in humanity, Springer - you said "forces", not "agendas".
Sorry...
2 people did. They must feel VERY smug now!
what rot
the idea that this is contrived is nonsense, anyone could generate this sort of PR they would be working for someone with more cash than even Jonathon ross. the idea that there are forces pushing pulling things like this is nonsense it's more likely that after days of grim financial stories people are having a respite giving a kicking to some stupid rich bullies.
Sorry Chris
Stupid and rich yes. Bullying I would query. But to deny that it could possibly be contrived is just plain silly. There is a super PR industry out there (that I used to be involved with) that is more than capable of doing this. Just think who benefits from all of this.
The more this goes on it seems to me that scores are being settled in more ways than one. And to be honest that's just as nasty as the original sin.
If I hear the word bully again...
in reference to this story I will scream! Over paid idiots yes, bullies? Get a grip man!
The media coverage now is
The media coverage now is swinging into overkill but I think that is largely due to the fact that a lot of people have become increasingly bemused by Jonathon Ross' work of late. It doesn't need the PM to join in this particular debate - better to question the BBC's delivery against its charter and the general feeling that they know better then us.
The point I was making Lee
is that when the politico's get involved it's time to take a step back.
Anyone know
if Oliver Stone is going to make a movie about The Andrew Sachs Affair? I hear Jim Carey and Robin Williams are lined up and are reading the first draft of a script but who will play Andrew?
Paul Newman
Oh he actually IS dead.
Spot On Springer
...I've been thinking just the same. Especially when I start seeing interviews with the Sachs' granddaughter, complete with a combination of sexy pictures and sweet angelic pics of her as a child, alongside her admitting to relations with Brand.
I do think the whole thing is stupid, but both Brand and Ross aren't exactly known for their sophisticated sense of fun are they? It's what they get paid for.
And I have less of a problem with them getting paid for doing childish things like that than I have with politicians who should be getting on with running the country jumping into the melee.
I think they had no option
What with Blair having banged on and on about recovering a "respect culture", his successor - the leader of what is electorally speaking the same government -- could hardly let this slip without appearing to condone it, particularly since the BBC's own damage-limitation action consisted of such a reluctant too-little-too-late apology. And as soon as questions were raised in the House (the first MP to bring up the matter there was Frank Skinner - who, by an amazing coincidence, was scheduled to appear on Ross's next show), Brown probably felt he had no option but to "send a message".
I do agree, though, that illustrating the outrage at Bland's moral degeneracy with pics of the innocent victim Voluptua, heaving cleavage akimbo, is such a classic Soaraway tactic, it should become a case study for aspiring redtop hacks.
Wha?
Frank Skinner MP? I don't remember voting for him...
Was that poetic licence Arch?
Oops, a senior moment
It was, of course, the Beast of Bolsover, the Rt. Hon. Dennis.
Yes a thread that I can relate to
Springer you said it. There is the foul smell of pontificating politicians in the air. Overkill is perhaps just the word. These idiots needed a good telling off or a damn good kick in the nuts.
But this over the top nonsense. I hope Andrew Sachs had the decency back in the day to apologise to the Spanish Nation for the caricature of their nation that he built his career on. Still they seem to have gotten over it.
I hope Georgina Baillie gets her wish and finally flaunts herself on page 3 of The Sun which she has said she aspires to. Hey even FHM. And finally that The Satanic Sluts get the publicity that the so cravenly desire.
And I hope that this country sees through the bullshit that is being spun and complain about real things. Like a stupid war for one.
Radio 4 and the Producer are to blame
Material only has to be appropriate for listeners who listen to that show. A rap show isn't expected to be appropriate for Radio 3 listeners. So material was appropriate. This is backed up by the fact that only 2 LISTENERS complained about the show. Since when do people complain about shows they didn't hear? Ridiculous!
Radio 4 are the ones who inflamed all this by encouraging outrage & stoking the fire. If it wasn't for them the Sachs' wouldn't have had to go through this on this scale.
The fact that it was then aired on BBC Radio 2 is the fault of the BBC Producer who cleared it, not Brand or Ross's
