And he's on Later ...

... tomorrow night. It's hard to avoid him these days!

Good!

About bloody time!

Ron is out there doing it for all the truly talented artists who get routinely ignored and crapped on by the music industry, and a shallow media who can't see beyond the end of next week...

Go Ron!

Cheers Ola.

I hope you don't mind me flagging this here for other Ron fans...

He was on BBC Radio 2 last evening & my post slipped out of sight.
He did 'Get In Line' and a cover of 'So Tired Of Waiting' by the Kinks. Lovely stuff.

I've got my tickets for Leamington Spa in June! Yay!!

PS - I just watched the interview and it plays fine in the UK!
Maybe Ron should write a soundtrack for a Wes Anderson movie... ?

I would have missed the BBC 2 thing if you hadn´t mentioned it

So thanks, Adman!

Also glad to hear my link works in the UK. It´s nice to see TV4 get something right once or twice a year...

Ron deserves to be heard. Maybe a soundtrack would be it?

Seems like the record is doing quite well,

from what he said on the radio.

But, yes... Getting your music into movies and TV seems to be the way forward!

(Can't imagine a Ron-Themed computer game, though...)

Good to hear Ron is doing well

His songs could be the backbone in a movie like Aimee Mann´s in Magnolia. They´ve got that kind of depth and insight and I´ve always liked the subtle humour in his lyrics.

He´ll never be able to compete with Lady Gaga, but he deserves recognition. The "songwriter´s songwriter" thing is getting a bit worn out.

The annoying part, of course, is that his songs would move people, of this I´m sure, if they where only given an honest chance to hear them.

Absolutely...

Sounds like Ron is tired of it too. He wants some hits!

Is is true, as Ron says in the interview, that singer-songwriters are popular in Sweden? Is there a taste for troubadours?

I´ve been thinking (no, reallly)

I don´t know if singer-songwriters are more popular here than anywhere else. But Swedes do seem to like a bit of melancholy, which is often present in the kind of music Ron is referring to.

The two biggest Swedish acts (when it comes to both awards and sales) in Sweden for the last ten years are probably Lars Winnerbäck and Kent. It´s that sort of whine thing for people who like to moan abaout being bullied in their teens, even if their now 30+. They are both very popular. Winnerbäck is a singer-songwriter. Kent sound like U2, Depeche and The Bends era Radiohead (repeat and let it fade out).

Maybe singer-songwriters just get more media coverage here? Perhaps as a reaction to all the Idol and Eurovision Song Contest hype, which lasts for 30 weeks a year - and if you´re not watching you´re told off for being elitist.

Sales and media coverage may not always be the same thing, right?

Or is Richard Thompson selling 30 million copies of each release in England?

Sales / media coverage...

Good point.

I think the melancholia thing sounds very likely; Canadians seem to have that going on too... Laughing Leonard Cohen springs to mind. I love all that stuff too. Mind you, I'm not known for my sunny disposition. :)

Canada is also a bit to the north

Maybe it has something to do with the sun setting at 4.30 for a couple of months every year? It affects your mood, no doubt. Of course it does. Although the south of Canada is not more northern than the south of Europe it´s to the north of the USA, which I´m sure is what the Canadians seem themselves in relation to - so they regard themselves as northeners.

I do think, however, that Canadians have a weird sense of humour. I´ve detected this in Neil Young interviews. Or maybe he´s just globally weird. Sorry Neil. Leonard also has a weird offbeat humour, I think. Well, they both make laugh.

But Joni Mitchell doesn´t exactly seem like a joker. Celine IS a joke, but there´s a difference.

Melancholic people often have a sense of subtle humour, rather than the hey-look-at-me-I´m-totally-CRAZY-so-I-stand-on-a-table-and-shout kind.

I guess Ron is touring Scandinavia right now?

I was sent this link from a Norwegian newspaper/tv station?

The video clip is of Loudon Wainwright III on Norwegian tv a couple of days ago. When the clip is finished, much like a youtube link, it gives you another link to click on. This is the Ron Sexsmith one.

I hope he´ll return in the summer

Since I wasn´t able to go to Stockholm to see him play a couple of days ago. Play the south, Ron! Malmö perhaps?
