Entertainment For Lively Minds
Ron Sexsmith
Posted by alastairpurves on 8 September 2011 - 6:15pm.
When:
Monday 5th September
Where:
O2 ABC,Glasgow
Comments:
Ron and his band came on to an ecstatic welcome from the audience and then proceeded to justify our expectations.Although he was suffering a bit from a cold, and therefore tended to avoid reaching for those high notes,Ron was in fine voice and the band were just faultless.Sound was clear and not excessively loud(in marked contrast to the Jayhawks here a couple of weeks ago)and the performers seemed genuinely gratified by the crowd's appreciation.
The Audience:
60/40 male to female, students through to pensioners, all respectful and attentive.Apart from the well refreshed couple in front of us waving pints around and getting a little over-amorous for public viewing.Nice for them, distracting for others.
Food & Drink:
Didn't partake, put off by the piss-take prices for drinks. No food as far as I know.
It Made Me Think...:
Why can't this guy catch a break? The tunes just seem to spill out of him and he's a charismatic if self-effacing performer.

I think I might well
have been behind that very couple, for a while! Near(ish) the merch table?
Had to move away when they TALKED through "Secret Heart"!!!! Oh, the humanity!
Anyway, splendid gig - and nice to see Ron having some success (so glad I don't have to squeeze into Tut's to see him, any more!)
