Rock's John the Baptist and Jesus

Just an emerging theory, not blasphemy.
John the Baptist: Travis, Jesus: Coldplay
JTB: Teenage Fanclub, Jesus: Oasis
JTB: Midlake, Jesus: Fleet Foxes
JTB: Pixies, Jesus: Nirvana
What do you think? Any others?

Blasphemy.
Sun-maddened, toothless old codgers with nothing better to do than sit around picking their noses and scratching their arses while they wait for a stoning to begin: Oasis
Jesus and entire band of disciples: Teenage Fan Club
I hear you
and agree. I was looking at it from popularity not quality. Midlake could indeed be the messiahs if they're not just very naughty boys.
Well...
...if all those years of unutterable boredom in church are anything to go by, Midlake are quite a good fit as Jesus.
And I hear what you're saying too
It's Van Occupanther all the way for me.
Not even that.
After finding The Courage Of Others incredibly dull, lots of people told me that Van Occupanther was "AMAZEBALLS" (I'm quoting two people directly). I should've trusted my instincts and favoured them both with a swift kick in the knackers. Instead, I bought it.
It was dull.
Agreed
I'd rather do some filing than listen to Midlake.
Apart from the fact they were both
on Creation Records, I don't see the musical connection between Oasis and Teenage Fanclub at all. TF drew the dots between Neil Young, Big Star, Brian Wilson and Grunge. Oasis joined the dots between Lennon, Mcartney, Bolan and Johnny Marr.
The Real People, Rain, and The Inspiral Carpets begat Oasis, not Teenage Fanclub.
Yeah, it was the Creation connection I was getting at.
but I think I also read somewhere about Noel describing TF being a big inspiration in addition to the ones you mention.
I'll take your word for it
Fair 'nuff.
How about
John The Baptist: Bad News, Jesus: Spinal Tap
See what I did there?
Good in theory
One opened the way for the other's popularity. But if you want to get pedantic, John was Jesus' cousin, and there doesn't seem to be much of that going on.
I think YOU want to get pedantic BK...
Surely artists can be musical cousins...
(Some of us heathens here have bothered to read the 'good' book.)
I always want to get pedantic.
"Hello my name is Alex and I'm pedantic."
Audience - "I believe you meant 'Hello. My name is Alex and I am a pedant'", etc.
The nepotism element can be exploited though - just look at the whole Laura Marling / Noah and the Whale / Mumford and Sons thing. All popular, all have shared houses, went to school, or went out with each other. Like a big happy family.
Like a big happy, incestuous family...
Which leads us back to the bible, probably... ;)
(Thanks for taking my snarky comments in good part, Alex. It does you credit.)
Hope there are no evangelists reading...
