Rocking around the Randomizer
Posted by David Hepworth on 21 December 2010 - 12:40pm.
At this time of year it's customary to gather round the festive hearth, give the yule log a taste of the poker, pour another slug of that violent yellow digestif you brought back from Croatia and then, taking up your iPod (other MP3 players are available), switching it to random and then reading off the first five tunes that come up. As I shall now do:
1. Delaney & Bonnie: When The Battle Is Over
2. Joni Mitchell: Dreamland
3. Tim & Sam's Tim & Sam Band: All Tucked Up
4. Bruce Springsteen: Long Walk Home
5. Frank Zappa: Son Of Mr Green Genes
No cheating, no editing to make yourself look more cutting edge or other jiggery pokery. Just let the randomizer tell its own story.
Merry Christmas.

That`s my first ever up! It`s made my Christmas...really!
I blame my older brother for my deeply unfashionable love of Supertramp. He was listening to them when I was all new-wavey..I really shouldn`t have liked them but Crime of The Century is one of my fave all time top ten albums of all time ever.
So here's your second ever up
with my best wishes. Happy Christmas! :-D

3. Stop Dragging my Bag (sorry, heart) around by Stevie Nicks

When #6 turned out to be Early Morning Rain in the slightly limp Judy Collins version I began to assume iPod was taking the piss of the morose traveller ... though turned out to be a nice seed for a Genius playlist.

a few winter birds hop among the branches
tree tops catch the wind and translate
yet stillness abounds
you remember
a bunny is busy with something beneath the tree
look! a present for you!

Here you go
Home - Shane Nicholson - The Loft Sessions
Sleep Like a Log - Paul McKenna
More Than Us - Travis
Thank You - Michael Franti and Spearhead
Feelin' - The La's
I have to say I don't think I've ever heard the Shane Nicholson or Travis songs, and couldn't hum Thank You. Maybe it shows I've too many songs in iTunes? Or maybe doing it in iPod would make it feel a bit more like me? But I am a bit surprised that more people haven't had any Michel Thomas language courses come up in their top 5, or even a little bit of classical.
It has started in a striking vein ...
Dan Sebesky - Guru-Vin (from Amorphous Androgynous)
Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - La Conquista Della Posizione E (from Darwin)

Last Christmas -
Last Christmas - Wham!
Refugee - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Heaven(Unplugged) - Bryan Adams
Part of the union - The Strawbs

The Wham track seems almost too obvious --- perhaps there are forces at work we don't understand despite what Richard Dawkins might say ...
Randoms (not those silly sweets)
Starstruck - The Kinks
Late for your life - Mary Chapin Carpenter
All along the watchtower - Jimi
I like it - Dixie Chicks
Goodbye Morai - Leon Hunt

Henry Kaiser - Punctual As Actual
Afro-Cuban Allstars - Amor Verdedera
Paul Brady - The Island
Thin Lizzy - My Sarah
Super Furry Animals - Dim Bendith
Apart from the Kaiser track dislodging a few fillings; and the Thin Lizzy track being a bit gloopy...not bad really, though I don't remember where the Afro-Cuban fellers came from...Cuba probably, ha!
late as always...
DMX - Crime Story
Urban Thermo Dynamics - Do It
