Rock Trumps...
Posted by ainsley009 on 8 May 2010 - 10:48pm.
Is it just me, or was the "Rock Trumps" section of the podcast this week, just that one step too far. I think it's the first time (I think I started with podcast 30 or something close) that I've ever thought "well that's great for you, but this isn't meant to be about YOU, even if it's a reflection of your opinions and experiences".
Perhaps I'm over-reacting and I'm sure I'll get told if I am, but it annoyed me for a few minutes before normal service was resumed.

I saw it as
a way of bring back a HORA type section but how isn't the podcast always about the participants?
It was a bit elitist
but every once in a while that's not a bad thing. If they didn't have that kind of background, would the podcasters be that listenable ?
Reminds me of Pop Trumps.
A very short-lived thing Simon Mayo did on his morning Radio 1 show which, via email, I ended up writing every morning for a couple of weeks. It was Mornington Crescent with pop groups, trying to reach Alex Party. Via the Seattle diagonals, trying to avoid the four corners (Hufty, Nid, Um Bongo and Shinto)which could be avoided with a well-played Banjo Card which was always strong on a Manchester Vertical. 90's rules always enforced in tournament play, ultimate trophy being the Cricklewood Platter.
I enjoyed it, but it could have been taken further...
I would have liked to have heard a comparison made between Mark Ellen's special powers (making cups of tea, handing out biscuits, miming in Nona Hendryx videos) with those of Skeletor.
I can understand your point of view but
that's like saying you won't listen to an interview with John Lennon because you weren't in The Beatles.
I felt v slightly like that
until Fraser won so comprehensively with the Cure A&R thing ;-)
well I
loved it
I think it IS about them...
I wouldn't want to listen to myself and a few mates on a podcast - and I'm quite sure the rest of you wouldn't either!
I think the beauty of the Word podcast is that the 'players' HAVE done extraordinary and fascinating things in the company of extraordinary and fascinating people ... and then have the ability to talk about them as though they were your mates.
