Rock Mags that are no more.....
Posted by bonehead on 4 February 2008 - 4:28pm.
As an expat now living in Brisbane Australia, i read with interest the article on music publications that have ceased publication. This brings me to one not mentioned in the spread; from circa 1975/76....can anyone recall an arty pop culture tabloid weekly under the title of "Street Life?" i used to read it on the bus on my way to art college and somewhat pretentiously thought it made me look cool!! anyway, in retrospect it was ahead of it's time;very colourful prose, great layout intresting articles......and i would also like to know the full story of the demise of "The Face" if anyone can help....?
Thanks

Street Life
Rather sadly, I have an almost complete set of Street Life in the back bedroom. One copy that I know is missing had Steve Harley on the cover, and was stolen by a young female friend who had a crush on him.
More on "Street Life"
Thanks for your comment... reminded me of the time my stepmother removed a 1993 editon of "Time Out" from my in order collection because it backed up a theory of mine....(but thats another story!)
"Street Life"
The classic case history of why it's never a good idea to name a mag after an iffy Roxy Music track.
It wasn't actually all that bad a rag, as I remember. Didn't Mick Brown and chums use to write for it?
More "Life'
Thankyou for your comments.......i think Roxy may have had an influence on the publishes choice of title....i have know idea who wrote for it!
A tax write off
I was told many years ago that Street Life was a magazine set up to fail by Island Records so that it could be written off against tax. But I have no idea at all whether or not this was true.
Where there's Life
That's an interesting theory .... thanks!
