Rock Hairesy
Posted by Leedsboy on 16 June 2008 - 12:43pm.
Thought it mildly amusing that Paul Weller saw fit to criticise Boris Johnson's hair. Whilst the Weller hair is not as bad as the Johnson hair, I mused that Boris has hair like that because he really doesn't care so doesn't put any thought into it. Whereas Mr Weller clearly cares very much and puts a lot of effort into his. And it still looks crap.
So, who has good rock hair? Who has bad? And can you have rock hair at work and still climb the greasy pole?

Silly, silly Hair.
I also find Paul Weller's salt-and-pepper elderly feathercut very silly. He looks like an aggrieved pigeon. I know there are serious Weller-fanciers around though, so I hope the shit doesn't hit the fan on this one. Some fanciers keep up to 20 Wellers in rooftop lofts and race them on warm evenings. There is nothing like the sight of a flock of well-trained Wellers, wheeling above the city, their feathercuts blushed pink by the dying rays of the sun.
We Had Great Hair And We Were All Far Out
I was quite close-up to Mr Weller recently and all I can say is that his current 'do' looks like a flattened womble forced onto his head.
Bad barnet
I have no idea what the Modfather is doing with that barnet of his. Give him a 'tache and he'd look like the Finnish entry to Eurovision circa 1975!!
Either that
or an extra in "Mods do Dallas"
Are we including the "hairstyles"
of those such as Ed Cassidy, who would not look out of place in any boardroom?
Ed Cassidy
I think a shaved head is not particularly rock (although it may have been when he shaved his). I'm thinking could Robert Smith hold down a job as Finance Director for a multinational?
You bugger
you ruined my keyboard. I'd only just got the last lot of tuna sandwich fragments out from under the keys.
3 words...
... Flock of Seagulls!
And Mike Score
gave up hairdressing to be in the band. Good choice (just).
Seen Liam Gallagher's recently?
The 'middle-aged lady bob' is in this season, apparently.
Not management material, that Gallagher.
Bonio up close and personal
More gaps than watford, more colour than Woolies (if you like rust).......
Best hair in rock?
That bloke from Tinariwen. You know, the one with the hair. Are Tinarewen rock?
Second best
Ms. Badu wins.
Weller's...
...new haircut is just dreadful by any standards! Nothing particularly against the man's music though- I like The Jam and even some of his solo stuff. What's the new one like?
I always blanche a bit when I see photos/film of rock stars in the 80s as well, when many of them were sporting awful mullets and hairspray-assisted hairdos. Seeing archive repeats of TOTP from the 80s I always find faintly horrifying!
Weller's new one
Listening to it now. Would recommend it. I've not been too bothered by previous solo stuff except Wildwood but this is something special - up there with his best work I'd say. All sorts of styles and influences - it rocks. Sounds like he really enjoyed making it. I can't stop playing it. So what I am trying to say is I really like it. If he is going to make music this good with that hair-do then I say keep it as it is!
Could be on to something
Wellers hair style seems at its best when his music is least impressive. Or is it the other way round. New album must be good then.
New Weller album not “a bit boring, really” shock
The last few Weller albums have all had a few decent songs on them but been, on the whole, a bit boring really. I think the rave reviews for this new one are because people are genuinely surprised that this one isn’t. I think the Word review got it about right. If you’ve liked Paul Weller’s music in the past but lost interest over the years this is definitely one worth hearing.
Does this work for other artists?
Where does Dylans risble tache fit in with this concept?
Vans flowing mane of yesteryear? Nick Cave: the tache years, versus the smooth years?
Wild'n'wooly Thompson the boy, the intermediate woolly hat and combover years and the elder statesman and beret?
Hmmmm.....
Uncertain.....
So Suess Me
I always though the Caveman looked a little bit like the Cat in the Hat. Is it just me? Separated at birth?

Zowee, Cavey!
Hmmm. Look at the shadows on this record cover. Herman Munster? Neanderthal man?
Hair today, gone tomorrow...
All hail the king of the rock barnet... Mr Keef Richards. Until he started hanging ornaments in his hair, that is.
How do I
embed pictures please?
It is strange indeed you should ask me, Mr Luddite...
Look under FAQ on the menu bar of the Word site... Fraser explains how to upload images.
Unclear...
Mr Luddite is me, if that wasn't clear!
Divshare
I download the image to my computer, then upload it on to divshare (it's free to get an account), and then go to "More options", where you can choose what size you want, then copy and paste the code it gives into your comment.
Hope that makes sense. You can embed music too, though I've found it must be in mp3 format, not mp4, if it's going to give you that nice little flash player thing.
Divshare had a security alert last night - how exciting. Seems fine though.
Ahhh...
... that explains why the flash player sometimes doesn't appear. Thanks for that.
