Robert Kirby Memorial Concert
Firstly, apologies for using this forum to publicise a forthcoming gig – it's not a practice to be encouraged but I'm making an exception as this event is a bit special. And Fraser said I could.
On Sunday 3 October, at Cecil Sharp House just north of Regent's Park, an array of musicians who worked with the late Robert Kirby, the man whose string arrangements made such a memorable contribution to Nick Drake's first two albums and whose credits include Vashti Bunyan, Elton John, The Strawbs, Paul Weller and many more, are gathering to celebrate his life and work on the anniversary of his untimely death at the age of 61.
Kirby was held in great affection by his collaborators and the concert, which starts at 1.30pm, promises to be a wonderful afternoon conducted by Harvey Brough (who also performs along with Clara Sanabras) and featuring Teddy Thompson, Vashti Bunyan, Steve Ashley, Luke Jackson, Ben & Jason and a one-off appearance from Fab Cab, Robert’s choral group from Caius
College, Cambridge whose last public appearance was in 1967.
