They Don't Make them Like That Any More
Authur Penn was an outstanding film maker of the 70's. Check out Bonnie and Clyde, Nightmoves and the Missouri Breaks. They are massively great films.I don't wish to wax in to the territory of "they don't make them like that any more" but....
Please check out the three films above, there is nothing finer on the screen.
Little Big Man
is another great film of his. A wonderful, expansive film with many moments to savour, both funny and dramtic. The BBC used to show this film all the time, usually on a Friday night if I remember correctly. A reshowing would be a fine tribute to the man.
Talented family...
He was the younger brother of the great photographer Irving Penn who passed away last year.
Night Moves and The Left Handed Gun
are two of my all time favourite movies. His output was sparse but nearly all his films - if not all of the highest quality - are well crafted and interesting. R.I.P
