Richard Thompson's Mystery Woman
Posted by Five-Centres on 4 February 2009 - 11:18am.
I went to see Richard Thompson's 1000 Years of Popular Song last night, and thought:
a) Hasn't he aged since the last time I saw him;
b) Who was the vocalist he had with him? She had a great voice, very versatile, but I didn't catch her surname;
c) Didn't the woman on drums look like Josie Lawrence?; and
d) I enjoyed the first half more than the second half

She's Judith Owen
Here's her site.
Thanks David
Could've done without some of the vocal gymnastics on some numbers, but generally I thought she was marvellous.
Obligatory Judith Owen trivia...
...she is married to Harry "Derek Smalls/Burns/Smithers/Skinner/Flanders/etc" Shearer.
So she's Mrs Smalls!
Excellent!
Isn't she just?
She does backing/harmony vocals on some RT albums, too ('Old Kit Bag', one of my favourites, springing to mind).
I particularly like the way they work together in '1000 Years' - her flamboyance (are there any other women in capes peforming live these days?) plays well with RT's shy on-stage persona.
Linn have pages for her as well
