Richard Bacon

Clearly

You've just endured his 'interview' with Stephen Baldwin. Shockingly bad choice of guest, very poorly handled by Bacon. His late night show was bearable, this abhorrent mess is practically unlistenable.

Couldn't agree more

but then I'm still coming to terms with the piercing shrieks of Anita Anand during drivetime; no replacement for Jane Garvey.

And while we're on the subject of much-missed presenters, which we weren't until the line above...can we have Fi Glover back on Five Live too please?

There was a rumour which went around..

Along the lines of Mr Bacon, if he fell on his sword over the toot incident, thus giving the papers a low-rent BBC victim rather than Z** B*** or J**** T********* who the papers were really after and were also involved, would be given a charmed life from then on.

I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's no good. He's hopeless. And Gabby Logan, much as I love her, is struggling as well. I think Phil Williams and Colin Murray might have to be brought in.

Phil Williams

would be excellent but Colin Murray's already on enough for me.

On the other hand...

I like Colin Murray but can't stand Phil Williams - he's like a bland Richard Bacon.
But what all this really shows is how good a broadcaster Simon Mayo is. In an ideal world he'd come back to 5 Live and Chris Evans would go back to drive on 2 - that's where they're both at their best. I know that'll never happen though.

And yet.....

....when Mayo first started on 5-live, he was loathed by regular listeners and came in for similar criticism as that being levelled at Bacon (unintelligent, dumbing down, can't handle breaking news, etc, etc). On the old 5-Live message board, there were repeated calls to get rid of Mayo.

However, over time, Mayo matured into a great presenter who exemplified, in many people's eyes, the best qualities of 5-Live.

Maybe, given a fair crack of the whip, Bacon will do the same.

Shouldn't the

cast-iron legal defence "allegedly" appear in that somewhere?

Why?

I said that it was a rumour.. I named no names..

Not me, guv. I don't know nuffink. Bloke down the pub said it.

Well

whilst Bacon get his "fair crack of the whip", I, probably with many other Five listeners, will be voting with the "listen again" switch and going elsewhere...of course what is even more annoying is that Mayo will be undergoing a "makeover" of his radio self in his new spot on Radio Two..seriously folks, what an utter waste of talent!

Mayo

It's just so sad. I've tried Mayo over on Two, and he's saddled with a format that stultifies his phenomenal interviewing skills - but he's got a much bigger audience. Where's the justice in that, eh?
