Replacement earphone for iphone

Rosbif's picture

I've done a search and can't find a thread about this, although if there has been one, perhaps someone could point me to it. Anyway, earlier today I yanked my iphone earplug cable one time too many, and too hard; it still works to listen to music, but the remote button doesn't work any more, which is far more inconvenient than I'd realised.

So, I'm looking for a replacement. Money is tight, so your fancy Sennheisers at 50 squids a pop are sadly not on the agenda. All I want is something that does what the bundles earphones do, at least as well or preferably a little bit better, without shelling out more than about 20 quid. Is this even doable?

Hmmm

Good suggestions in some ways, although there are drawbacks: the ones Leedsboy recommends are widely praised for their sound - but just about all the reviews say they only last a few months. And the other pair aren't compatible with an iphone (the point being that they need to have a built in mic in the cable, preferably one that allows you to pause and play the music as well. Anyone tried the Koss ispark?

These

Are brilliant. Sennie CX300. Amazing for the price (which is a third of what I paid for my first pair)

Sony

Sony do a cheap pair for around £25 or so. MDR-EX38i.

These look promising...

Have you tried them yourself JQW? Has anyone else? The reviews suggest that these may be more durable than the Sennheisers, and while I'd love to put sound quality as priority no. 1, I have to bear in mind that they're likely to get a bit of a mauling and get caught on things and yanked like my original ones did. Actually, the existing ones have started working again, but I may still get a new set, as I'm sure the Sony or Senns will both be miles better than the apple ones for sound quality.

Ok...

Anyone tried these? Sennheiser MM50, someone tried to sell me them for £45, looks like you can get them for half that on amazon. Looks good.

Haha!

I've just realised these are the ones Leedsboy originally suggested, only then they were even cheaper, about a tenner. Ah well, I'm going to give them a go and maybe reinforce the join to the jack with tape.

It's a circular world

Amazon are very good for returns if they don't last as well.
