Religion delivered wrong (reprise)
Mention of DC Talk in the mailout today reminded me of two stories I've told before on here but which I'll never tell of relaying again and again.
I went to Bury C of E High School and we often had assemblies given the odd - sometimes very odd - special guest. One of these was a group from Manchester called the World Wide Message Tribe, who came to spread the gospel via the medium of techno. They actually proved rather popular:
Our headmaster lived in Oldham and he went to the same church as John Lees from Barclay James Harvest. He invited John in who gave a one man show to an unappreciative bunch of 11 to 16 year olds who sniggered as he la-la-ed his way through one song. I quite liked it, but do you think I was ever going to admit that in the peer pressure ridden world of high school when it was safer to say you liked 2 Unlimited? Not a chance.

DC Talk changed their style somewhat
towards the end of the decade. I listened to a lot of this stuff when I was younger. Most of it is terrible, but many of those Christian bands had a few tracks that could "stand-up." DC Talk ended up producing some pretty smooth pop like this
just sayin!
