Rejoice, readers of The Word!

For our editor Mark Ellen won the top national gong at last night's British Society Of Magazine Editors' awards at the Hilton in Hyde Park. Here's photographic evidence - a tired and emotional Ellen clutching the silverware and flanked by the evening's host Lauren Laverne and (right) BSME chair Lisa Smosarski. He declared himself "overjoyed" with his his 'Editors' Editor Of The Year' trophy. Got third prize in the raffle too. Top night all round.

Congrats!
Seals will be dodging machine guns for months to come. Enjoy!
I have one word to say about that image
photoshop
:-)
Eh?
Blue shirt in the wash or what?
OBE in the New Years Honours forthcoming!
Order of the British Editor?
:-D
And is that a colossal blow-up of the cosmic sleeve to the Mahavishnu Orchestra's 'Between Nothingness & eternity' LP they're posing in front of? Were they all hoping Mark's acceptance routine would include a dizzying fusion guitar solo?
Anyway, wacky thumbs aloft - well-deserved!
Congratulations
And can I just say I wouldn't mind being the filling in that particular sandwich. But mainly congratulations.
Indeed...
What a great prize. Not so sure about the trophy though.
And congratulations of course!
Is the one on the right saying...
"I can't believe I'm standing next to David Hepworth!"
proof
that nice guys don't always finish last. Well done!
Congratulations!
What I want to know is.........
Where have Lauren and Lisa got their hands ?
I reckon they've got a cheek actually.
Well done Mark, thoroughly deserved.
Couldn't have happened
to a nicer guy..well done Mr Ellen..well deserved too..confirmation that you are the soul of Word Magazine!
My, that Lauren Laverne is a comely wench...
Oh yeah, well done Mr Ellen.
Well done Mark
However I'd like a close up picture of the trophy.
well done, Mark
I only wish that Fraser and DH had been along there with a microphone and tape recorder so they could have recorded a podcast with a 'lit up' Ellen being terribly indiscreet!
it is well deserved
For 'tis a well edited Magazine.
"Just doin' m'job ladies"
"Just doin' m'job"
Hearty congrats
Congratulations Mark. Must feel nearly as good as playing in a jazz band.
It's very well deserved
Mark Ellen is now the King Arthur of editors.
Canute, Surely?
(I use the contemporary spelling advisedly.)
Canute?!
...are you Cnuts?
Congratulations.
Now that you've won it, are safe, and don't have to give it back for a year (I presume) can you have an editorial "lapse of judgement" and commission an 8 page feature called "Pop Tarts!" containing any available photos of female pop stars in the nuddy?
Ta x
Jebus wept
His 'Going out...' column is going to be insufferable next month! Ha!
Well done!
'Society Of Magazine Editors'?
...seems a bit like some mates decide to give each other some awards. And have a big ceremony. ;-)
Anyway, congratulations!
Yeah but
Has he got a Word Readers Awards rosette? No? Well then.
Yes, yes...
...well done, Mr Ellen, but what I really want to know is what was the third prize in the raffle?
hoped he worked The Pentangle
into the acceptance speech
Lauren Laverne
How I love thee....
Oh yeah, and well done Mark
I know what you're thinking...
Tight Fit have let themselves go.
'At last something to read'
... its a philosophy that's paid off. Well done the boy Ellen. Long may you continue. Speaking of phil, there's a turn to be done there as a Human League tribute act.
Lisa Smosarski...
...has a smile that could melt obsidian. *swoons*
yes, onto the important things
my vote is for Lisa
Good interview with Lauren...
... available as a podcast "John Harris's National Conversations".
Congratulations Mark!
If I could think of a smartass comment that nobody else has already used, I'd do so. But I can't. Getting to stand next to Lauren Laverne is such a mighty achievement I'm left speechless. What's that you're holding, by the way?
Why are they all
standing in front of the opening titles of the original Star Trek series? The Enterprise is suddenly going to turn up and slice the top of somebody's head off.
Congratulations your editorship.
Many congratulations!
I take it you did not perch that magnificent award on your handlebars as you weaved your way home on your trusty cycle?
Who's that
pictured on the top right of the award?
It looks like Prince Philip. Or possibly Jack Charlton.
I thought it was Bobby Charlton...
noted editor of Combover Quarterly.
Congratulations from me too
Your magazines have always given great pleasure.
Well done Mark
May they keep on comin'
Well done Mark...
Richly-deserved recognition of your fine work.
And the results of Snog, Marry, Avoid are...
Marry, Avoid, Snog
Nice one, Squire.
I think I've managed to get a slightly clearer picture of the mysterious symbols and images on the award.
FAN...
...TASTIC! :-D
Mark Ellen wins . . .
. . . "Pointless" !!!
Congratulations and here's to many more of them
Good News
Well done, I thought it was a new shirt with an unusual pattern, then I realised it was the trophy!
This was such brilliant news
When I heard, I just wanted to do a little dance. Fantastic.
