Randlepmcmurphy's picture

Hi all i'd appreciate a bit of help here. I'm off to Newcastle in a few weeks and would like to do some vinyl shopping, and was wondering if anyone had any recomendations. Thanks in advance.

Are Spin still going?

It's a few years since I was in Newcastle but Spin was very good.

http://www.spincds.com/default.asp is their website - I half remember something about them closing the store. Drop them a mail . I bought the Fun House box there, and another great Rhino box - The Big Ol Box of 60s Soul, which is packaged like a box of 7" singles.

Pet Sounds is long gone I think

both the Old Eldon Square one and the one down Clayton Street, near the Forth pub.

I think Spin (mentioned above) just off Bigg Market's still there though. I always liked that place. Quite a nice selection of quite eclectic stuff though I've not been up there for specific music shopping for a couple of years.

It's got a new Apple store as well, which can't be bad :)

RPM and OldHitz

RPM Records is pretty popular too, stocks some vinyl still, they do in-store gigs, like Field Music recently. Just off High Bridge, not far from Spin.

Haven’t been in OldHitz for a few years but think it’s still there, used to have loads of old vinyl. 69 Grainger St.

Spin no more

I'm afraid the shop isn't around any more though they still exist as a mail order internet thingy.
