Record shop documentary

russell123's picture

Saw this mentioned in The Guardian. It premiered at SXSW 2011

Sounds like a Word friendly type of film.

As it says on the site, SOUND IT OUT is a distinctive, observational, documentary portrait of the very last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside.

Starring: Tom, Kelly, David, Daniel, 50,000 records and the good people of Teesside

I heard a radio documentary about independent record shops

On radio 2 last year, presented by Peter Waterman of all people. It was very good, don't remember this place being mentioned though

Is it still there?

I live very near Teesside and I didn't know it was there. Looks like a good film.

Blimey!

Until I moved to Glasgow in 2000 the only record shop worth knowing on Teesside (or that I knew about) was Alan Fearnleys (now Mail Order only). How long have they been in Stockton?!?!?!?!?

Sound it Out

I grew up and worked in Middlesbrough for years and never heard of this shop. But it is still there it seems and has a website here http://www.sounditoutrecords.co.uk/. Fearnleys was great as was Windows in Newcastle but my favourite was Tony Records in Redcar. Can still remember when one of the first 12" singles came out. This was, surprisingly, by The Who and Tony put it in the window with a large sign!
