Recommend a podcast

Hello friends

I'm stuck at home with the cold and my head hurts too much for me to read. I've got the new Word podcast ticking over in my Pod ready to help me feel a bit better but could do with a few more to get me through the day. Any recommendations? I already pick at Speechification and Fry's podgrams but there's so much choice I don't know where to start.

All ideas welcomed.

My favourites

Are Adam and Joe's 6music show podcast and the Friday night comedy podcast from Radio 4 (the News Quiz has just ended and the imcomparably brilliant Now Show is soon to start). Neither of those are proper podcasts really since they were originally radio shows but then the wireless has had a head start on the podcast by about a century so I imagine it will take a while for the gap in quality to be bridged fully.

Movies

I recommend Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo's Film Reviews from your greatest national treasure, the BBC

Times Online Music Podcasts

I've just downloaded a bunch of TimesOnline music podcasts with Peter Paphides interviewing people (Cocker, Hawley, Collins and Frame). Never tried these before but am willing to give it a go as Paphides used to write for Melody Maker back in the day and was always entertaining.

Guardian

I really like the Guardian 'casts - Football weekly, Politics, Tech weekly. Not a lot of laughs but there's loads of humour elsewhere. Also Lucy Kellaway at the FT - wry take on the ludicrous nature of much of the business world.

Danny Baker

Danny Baker is always entertaining - as mentioned on the Word Podcast - he's back on 606 and that's available as a podcast from i-tunes.

Andrew Collins and Richard Herring's podcast (Collings and Herrin) I enjoy, bit of swearing, so not kids in the car friendly though.

If you like Jonathon Ross his Saturday radio show podcast is worth a listen as well.

Seconded

I second the Danny Baker podcast.

Besides the Word's

Besides the Word's always-excellent 'cast, I subscribe to the following:

Downtown Soulville
60 minutes of ultra-rare soul 45s from Mr Fine Wine in New Jersey.

Intoxica Radio
Assorted oddball garage trash, often running for over two hours.

Brain Damage
The deifiniive Pink Floyd radio show, hosted by The Doctor.

I also implore you to check out my Rock'nRollSoul podcasts at http://www.rocknrollsoul.co.uk and, in glorious streaming Real Audio, to check out the archives of 60s survivour Psychedelic Pete's radio show from Canada.

IF you're into technology,

IF you're into technology, This Week In Tech (www.twit.tv) is good - but it IS nerdy.

Potty-mouthed director Kevin Smith does Smodcast - but they're a little hit and miss. http://www.quickstopentertainment.com/2008/06/16/smodcast-54/ - the earlier ones are best.

6music has a "Best of George Lamb" podcast. I would imagine it's pretty short.

I would add

Russell Howard & Jon Richardsons Radio 6 podcast. Very good.

Fighting Talk on R5 (sort of sport and comedy) often very funny.

Will second the Kermode/Mayo film's, R4 Friday Night Comedy and anything you can find with Danny Baker on it.

The Blueprint Podcast

I'd recommend The Blueprint Podcast. It's been going for a year or so, two chaps covering various subjects with a weekly focus on unusual news stories. Very entertaining.

www.blueprintpodcast.com or itunes.

yep, I recommend fighting talk and kermode, the times online's "bugle" and armstrong and miller, news quiz but the Now show's so hit and miss. Russell Brand if you like that sort of thing. alot of the BBC recap stuff is always good.

A hidden gem is the Cargo Podcast, great interviews, live show, DJ set and chat... I've been telling all my mates
