Reader Awards - some more details

Fraser Lewry's picture

For anyone not able to attend tonight's event, we're hoping to webcast proceedings live.

Unfortunately, our venue is currently without a connection to the internet, so we'll be attempting to do this via an iPhone, some gaffa tape, and O2's 3G network. Whether the phone can handle a couple of hours of live video streaming without crashing is in the hands of the gods, but we'll keep our fingers crossed. Either way, the feed will go online from about 7pm at http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/webcast

And if you plan to tweet about the event, either from the venue itself or from wherever you are, Handsome.P.Wonderful has suggested using the hashtag #MassiveAwards, which makes sense to me.

3G tethering

I recently did it without a glitch for hours on end when my home broadband went AWOL. Dead impressed, I was.

0
Archie Valparaiso | 26 November 2010 - 11:18am

I do hope people are not going to spend

all night twittering away on their phones rather than drinking ale and talking bollocks to me about music...Heaven forbid!

I remember the good old days on here when we used to moan about people filming gigs on their mobiles! ;-)

1
Retro Man | 26 November 2010 - 11:24am

Great

I shall partake from the comfort of my home. Thanks.

0
Spartacus Mills | 26 November 2010 - 11:26am

Webcast?

I'm now full of regret about not getting my hair cut.....

0
Leedsboy | 26 November 2010 - 11:58am

I shall be there

in a virtual spiritual sense. I've been put away in a box of warm straw for the winter by Valerie Singleton and am only allowed to emerge next Friday, drugs permitting.

4
Beany | 26 November 2010 - 12:57pm

All the best to y'all

Have a ball. God, I wish I was going with you. But this damned injury...

0
man.of.soup | 26 November 2010 - 1:09pm

Gutted I can't make it

Gutted I can't make it, but on the plus side I'm off to watch Cast play their first album, "All Change", in Manchester. Loved them in the 90s but never got to see them live.

If there's any chance of keeping some of it online for a later viewing (youtube etc) that would be great, though I realise it's a different task to streaming.

0
kidpresentable | 26 November 2010 - 1:53pm

Put it this way

If we can successfully stream the whole thing, then there will be a video of it. If we can't, there won't.

0
Fraser Lewry | 26 November 2010 - 1:59pm

I don't get awards

Literally.

0
busker_du | 26 November 2010 - 1:56pm

Marvellous

I'll tune in from Berkshire. I'm reliably informed the heating has been on all day so it'll be warm in our house.

I may therefore be sans trousers.

0
Beezer | 26 November 2010 - 2:20pm

If I drink enough wine

I may too be sans trousers at some point tonight.
Catch it live!

0
jimmyshoes01 | 26 November 2010 - 2:26pm

erm ...

chatroulette is that way ->

3
el hombre malo | 26 November 2010 - 2:39pm

Splendid

I'll be tuning in from Casa Malo, most likely with a glass of something warming to hand.

I hope you all have a great time!

0
el hombre malo | 26 November 2010 - 2:36pm

Many thanks Fraser.

As I've said before you're a true gent. The Squeezers will be raising a glass or six from the comfort of our sofa here at The Hovel whilst watching all our chums down in that London.I will be tweeting away like a good 'un to boot.

Fancy a sherbet next Friday Fraser in that Manchester? The Kro Bar 2 7:00.Everybody Welcome.Come and have some fun with your northern chums.

Have a whale of a time tonight everyone.XX

0
Pencilsqueezer | 26 November 2010 - 2:50pm

We're knee-deep in snow, and it's minus 6 degrees

outside, but I hope to be tuning in from chilly Stockholm.

0
duco01 | 26 November 2010 - 2:55pm

It will be like Eurovision

"and it's over to Stockholm for the votes of the Swedish jury, come in Stockholm..."

1
Chris G | 26 November 2010 - 3:00pm

Jo couldn't be with us tonight

Sorry I couldn't be there to meet some of you for the first time, and I'll be absent from Twitter too as I am (shock news) going out.

Enjoy. And don't forget, it's the taking part that counts. Not being a winner only makes you *slightly* inferior, not entirely.

Oh, and don't trip up on your long frocks and stilettos on the red carpet.

*chinks champagne glass*

0
JoLean | 26 November 2010 - 3:56pm

One hopes

the ladies are careful with their frocks too.

Is anyone intending to do a GaGa and turn up wearing the contents of s fishmongers, with a change to a creation made from clingfilm and Angel Delight halfway through?

0
el toro calvo grande | 26 November 2010 - 5:54pm

Twitter

I've just re-registered with Twitter for this occasion.

@Lucifer_Sam79

Said nowt yet like, but I've already got two followers. A pair of very friendly young ladies who'd like me to view some pictures. How pleasant.

0
Spartacus Mills | 26 November 2010 - 4:03pm

That'll be Hannah and Drakeygirl...

Arf!
@doyoudoanywings

3
skirky | 26 November 2010 - 4:12pm

Just FYI

for anyone interested

putting #MassiveAwards into Google Realtime

http://www.google.com/realtime

worked v well

0
SpaceBoy | 29 November 2010 - 1:45pm

Best wishes

Can't make it to tonight's "do".
Best wishes to all at the Word Massive.

1
Richard Lowe | 26 November 2010 - 4:51pm

Could someone

pick up my awards for me please?

4
Helena Handcart | 26 November 2010 - 4:53pm

The Glasgow South Massif

shall be Reprazentin'!

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 5:12pm

I would.

But I'll be weighed down with them.
- daftest name
- most threads killed
- poorest grammer and spelling
- most useless at posting pictures
ALL MINE!!!!

0
ganglesprocket | 26 November 2010 - 5:19pm

Have fun

Can't make it myself due to the kids but will try and tune in to the webcast.

0
Uncle Wheaty | 26 November 2010 - 5:29pm

have fun

all

0
badartdog | 26 November 2010 - 7:02pm

Have a great time, everyone.

Gutted that I can't be there, but see you on the 7th Jan!

x

0
Bob | 26 November 2010 - 7:10pm

Have a great night, y'all.

I shall be unable to attend owing to a scheduling conflict with my season ticket to Northampton Saints. However, in the unlikely event of my winning a bauble, a satellite link is available by tuning into Sky Sports and going to the Saints vs. London Irish top-of-the-table clash at Franklin's Gardens. Ask the nice Sky people to focus on Block R, Row T, seat 572 and there I am!

0
Mark JF | 26 November 2010 - 7:26pm

I'm

seeing some festive lighting and what looks like a fireplace

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 8:06pm

Pubcast!

0
spt | 26 November 2010 - 8:08pm

It's started!!

Fer goodness sake. Get somebody we know to at least wave to us...

I'm sure I can hear the Chuckle Brothers somewhere near the bar.

0
Beany | 26 November 2010 - 8:08pm

Suddenly!

It's Fireplace.

On with the action chaps...

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 8:10pm

The Christmas lights look lovely...

I'm sure I just heard Mark Ellen.

0
Patrick Crowther | 26 November 2010 - 8:19pm

I would recognise that blue shirt anywhere

It's Charlie Chuckle.

0
Beany | 26 November 2010 - 8:23pm

Broadsword calling Danny Boy

logged in from Casa Malo

0
el hombre malo | 26 November 2010 - 8:27pm

The pipes, the pipes

calling Danny Boy.

0
Helena Handcart | 26 November 2010 - 8:30pm

Broadsword calling Danny Boy

0
el hombre malo | 26 November 2010 - 8:27pm
Hot Cider | 26 November 2010 - 8:32pm

Soon I hope...

... I've been watching two ugly blokes talking for 15 minutes - and if that's supposed to be HD....

0
Formbyman | 26 November 2010 - 8:47pm

Mr Ellen's forgotten his outfit...

but a lackey has been sent to collect it. The action should start shortly.

0
Patrick Crowther | 26 November 2010 - 8:49pm

I'm playing

Spot the Bald Spot!

58 so far

2
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 8:48pm

and 7 of them...

... were women.

1
Formbyman | 26 November 2010 - 8:51pm

Do some old!

1
Beezer | 26 November 2010 - 8:52pm

Heaven's above!

The Goodies at the front have aged badly...

2
Beany | 26 November 2010 - 8:55pm

Lordy

I've done some surreal things in my time, but watching a bunch of blokes in a pub on't pooter is into the top ten with a bullet...

The pre-gig tension mounts - will they do anything we recognise?

1
Fridge | 26 November 2010 - 9:04pm

s'ok

Modern Family and Raising Hope are on't telly, well here they are

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 9:05pm

Somebody

talk to that bloke with the white hair, he seems to be on his own!

0
Uncle Mick | 26 November 2010 - 9:12pm

Women!

Real, live women!

Give us a wave, Hannah!

0
Patrick Crowther | 26 November 2010 - 9:13pm

The Mossman Mophead

Has made an appearance too...

0
Fridge | 26 November 2010 - 9:21pm

I did wave!

If you spotted a daft waving lady wearing a stripy top & a necklace that looked like it was made of sweeties, that was me.

*Waves again for good measure*

0
Hannah | 27 November 2010 - 1:33am

Hepworth..

scurries from webcam

0
Uncle Mick | 26 November 2010 - 9:16pm

so I've not missed much

just went away for an hour and came back - looks like I haven't missed much; but something may be about to happen.... the tension :)

0
grahamt | 26 November 2010 - 9:18pm

It's all gorn Pete!

*

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 9:23pm

Arrrrggghhhh

Where's it gone???

"We return to the Compass as the lucky recipients are taken away for photographs and interviews..."

0
Beany | 26 November 2010 - 9:25pm

Was it something I said?

*

0
grahamt | 26 November 2010 - 9:28pm

Yes!

all your fault Graham

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 10:28pm

This is like Groundhog Day!

I've seen David Hepworth (I think) shake the same guy's hand about 10 times now. They are caught in a space/time paradox!

0
Patrick Crowther | 26 November 2010 - 9:28pm

It`s

DAVE webcam!

1
Uncle Mick | 26 November 2010 - 9:33pm

Dave TV

THIS is how to do it...

1
stimpy | 26 November 2010 - 9:55pm
stimpy | 26 November 2010 - 9:52pm

Aha!

Me too.

At least they tried.

They're twittering. Backwards7, Captain Underpants and Drakekgirl are lifting trophy after trophy

0
Beezer | 26 November 2010 - 9:56pm
stimpy | 26 November 2010 - 9:59pm

0
stimpy | 26 November 2010 - 10:04pm

Twatter

I have avoided that and FarceBook but tonight I tried to register with Twit: no matter what user name I put in it told me was taken.
so it can go fuck itself

extremely peeved of Glasgow

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 10:06pm

It stopped?

and here's me still watching, wondering why they're late starting.

0
Helena Handcart | 27 November 2010 - 1:24am

Pathetic!

is this what I spend my hard earned cash on?

;)

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 9:53pm

But, but...

...all those illuminations. They must have cost at least a tenner.

0
Helena Handcart | 26 November 2010 - 10:23pm

I'm delighted

I am sure that Hannah will have followed my request to accept the prize, dressed as a squaw. (One for the teenagars, as Sr Valparaiso correctly noted)

Love and hugs to all the Massive, near or far.

0
el hombre malo | 26 November 2010 - 10:12pm

I've

e-mailed you and I see you have e-mailed me back with some weirdness

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 10:24pm

tsssch

That's the cleaned up, filtered version.

What I sent you could go out on kids' TV!!

It's Hunter S Thompson here.

To the tune of 'My Favourite Things' -
"Mezcal and Peyote and wool-balls for kittens,
Red wine and Ardbeg and cool stripy mittens "

0
el hombre malo | 26 November 2010 - 10:31pm

Bouy, yo

shore got a purdy mou-ath!

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 10:46pm
stimpy | 26 November 2010 - 10:16pm

Whole lot o Rosie

I think I'm with Rosie on blogging:

http://rosiesblog.net/

0
busker_du | 26 November 2010 - 10:22pm

Ocht!

it's no really like that, as a minion I'm very happy

0
James Blast | 26 November 2010 - 10:26pm

Idea for next years webcast:

could Pencilsqueezer do a Rolf Harris and paint a lovely picture on webcam that we all then can watch while it dries ?
Definitely more entertaining than the video from the witness protection gathering that I just tried to watch after coming home from work. I guess the camera should have been aimed at the bar...
Who won then ? The usual suspects ? Capo di tutti pantaloni ?

0
Locust | 26 November 2010 - 11:34pm

Congrats

to all the winners, I trust a good night was had by all

0
Pat Carty | 27 November 2010 - 12:26am

Hope A Good Time Was Had By All

And that the people I voted for won something. I've just come back from an all-too- very rare night out with Mrs Itfc at the Theatre, so I missed the webcam as well.

Oh well. See you all back here tomorrow, then.

0
itfc1959 | 27 November 2010 - 1:00am
