The Random Factor

It's been done before, but please select shuffle on your MP3 player and tell us the first ten songs that come up. It's always interesting to hear what people are listening to. No cheating please. To start off with, here are mine:

1) Faust Arp-Radiohead
2) Somewhere Else-Marilion
3) She's So Strange-Travis
4) Whatver Will Be Will Be-Doris Day
5) Stories To Tell-Stanely Clarke
6) The Chinese Way-Level 42
7) Dakota-Stereophonics
8) Tubby's At The Control-King Tubby
9) Leaving New York- R.E.M.
10)Silent Night-Sarah McLachlan

On randomness

1. Catastrophe and the Cure - Explosions In The Sky
2. The Accident - ILIKETRAINS
3. Better On The Hard Side - The Lucy Show
4. Blessing - Popol Vuh
5. Fancy Claps - Wolf Parade
6. Glittering Blackness - Explosions In The Sky
7. On Horseback - Mike Oldfield
8. Hope I'm Around - Todd Rundgren
9. Signature Tune (Peel Sessions) - The Lotus Eaters
10.Set Me Apart - The Lotus Eaters

11. ..another Todd Rundgren song!
12. Wonderful World by Nine Horses

This is ridiculous. I have 4017 songs on this 30GB iPOD and whilst I have all of EITS's albums and most everything The Lotus Eaters did (which was a couple of albums 20 years apart and a few sessions tracks) and tons of Todd, this just goes to show that the random play on iPODs isn't very random. Yes I know that's the nature of randomness, but I'm sure we have all experienced the iPOD finally finding tracks by a band it has previously ignored and then suddenly returning to them again and again as if that area of the disc has been opened up....

13. Citrus - The Hold Steady
14. Benedictus - Acoustic Strawbs
15. Inside - Stiltskin
16. Beauty Secrets - Be Bop Deluxe
17. Track 2 - Steve Adams
18. Let There Be - Oasis
19. I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better - The Byrds
20. There's Nothing Wrong - Terry Reid

I love my iPOD.

Sound Quality

I don't love my IPOD but I like it quite a lot. Know what you mean re the shuffle feature, doesn't seem that random at times. Just listening to a proper CD and it makes you realise about the sound quality of IPODS. Not that brilliant really, but guess I've just got used to it. Have to say, the sound of my old Sony Walkman with MEGA BASS was great! Nothing has come close since, which is a poor state of affairs.

David Wright | 18 November 2007 - 7:32pm
