Raiders Of The Lost Art
We've had Dennis Wilson's "Pacific Ocean Blue" finally re-issued. We've seen lost tapes from Caravan, Fairport Convention and many others finally resurface. There are monthly mags full of CD re-issue reviews of the great, the obscure, the long lost and the frankly chronic reappearing on shiny discs with oodles of extra tracks, home demos, mono versions and God knows what tacked on. We have acknowledged that we have access to more varieties of din than any earlier generation.
And yet.
There are still titles that I'd love to be able to buy, but I can't find anywhere for sensible prices. Sure, I can remortgage the house and get them secondhand via Amazon from some chancer asking three figures, but that doesn't count, not in the real world.
For example, much of the material that was originally re-issued (there's a new concept) on the "See For Miles" label remains locked in the vault while lawyers argue over royalty agreements. There are plenty of other examples of titles which, for one reason or another, remain elusive.
Top of my list of "love to buy it, but can't afford the stupid prices they go for on eBay" titles is Misty In Roots' fantastic live album called "Live At The Counter-Eurovision" from 1979.

Last Live XTC gig bootleg
I'd like to hear how Andy Partridge put it to the crowd. I also sold a lot of original vinyl when I was an idiotic teenager. I want them back.
Early eps collected would be good. There sre still a few wedding present b-sides from the early eighties uncollected by reissues.
Big Heat
I would love to hear Watch Me Catch Fire one more time. Any ideas?
Top of my list
is the eponymous Julie Covington LP, with Richard Thompson much featured, including her version of I want to see the bright lights tonight.
Wrong End of the Race/Any Trouble
Kings of the Robot Rhythm/Chilli willi (yes, I know it can be found, but hardly with ease)
Firebyrd/Gene Clark and
the first eponymous Rockingbirds album.
Chilli Willi & the Red Hot Peppers
If you are looking for "Bongos Over Balham" there is a free download extended version available on WE7, if you can put up with the adverts (half an hour with Audacity is always an option). This download version may tide you over until you can get your hands on a CD.
Strangely enough when unedited tracks come up on my Zen I don't find it too annoying to listen to a 10 second advert compared to Moyles like drivel on the radio.
I first heard this album "round a mates house" in 1974 or '75 and it was one of those albums that haunted me for years, stuck in my memory but never sure if it was as good as I seemed to think it was.
The CD version I have is a re-issue on Mooncrest records released in 1991, can't rememebr how long I have had it, but I was not disappointed when I heard it.
Thankfully
I have "Bongos", on vinyl, yes, on Mooncrest, together with the pre-mix versions, on the CD "I'll be Home" which, I think, adds much the same songs as are on the new bonus "Bongos", bar one or 2 which I have downloaded. "Robot Rhythm" is the 1st LP, a duo format of Phil Lithman and Martin Stone, once owned, but of such bad quality, soundwise, I took it back to the Tottenham Court Megastore, silly me.
to my eternal despair
I lent my copy of Misty In Roots - Live at the Counter Eurovision to Richard Price from my class. And he still has it. And I'd managed to forget this stupid act until you reminded me.......
Sorry about that.
Have you tried Vinyl Reunited?
I've banged on about The Beat in THE WORD before
but I still think it's crazy you can't get their albums as God intended, plus the many great b-sides, dubs, extended versions etc. There's a double Best Of that contains most of what they recorded but it's just not the same.
I also dearly want Shriekback's 'Jam Science' with all the dubs and mixes but suspect it would sell precisely one copy, and that to me.
The Beat - Yes
It annoys me no end that some of my favourite albums of all time are by The English Beat. It's just wrong!
(The Beat could only be gotten on American import you see...)
just in case you were wondering what the hell I was talking about...
Jim Irvin
I know they had a "difficult" career, but would someone let Jim know that there's at least one person out here who REALLY WANTS to get their hands on Furniture's "Food Sex and Paranoia"?
I want
Full Meal - it's an import only compilation of Soup Dragons' early singles. I have it on vinyl, but would like it on CD.
And while we're in an indie 80s area, what about reissuing Loop's stuff?
