Radio / Podcast Gold

David Wright's picture

Isn’t it great when you find a good new podcast?
Thanks to a previous link on this site, I’m very much enjoying the Radio Podprohenia Podcasts, which seem to feature lots of contributions from members on this site.
Alongside the Word Podcast, it’s one of the most interesting and entertaining podcasts I’ve heard for a long while. Not sure if you can listen live to the actual show?
Anyway,I’m working my way through past shows at the moment, great stuff. Isn’t it good when radio works, unlike the clip below.

Seconded

Picked up on Mondo's post after the London do the other week and have been catching up with the last few 'casts on the motorway this week.

You must be able to listen live, unless the boys are making up all the input from the 'listeners' on the fly...

Excellent work fella!

Good Shows

Agreed, they are very good, in a pub type conversational kind of way. I like all the jingles and sound bites as well.I downloaded the first four shows last night,so they are a great help getting through the long hours at work. As with the Joe Strummer podcasts, it's good when you find podcasts with full music tracks on them, not just the usual 30 seconds etc.

Cheers all, you're too kind

Yes you can now catch us live - every Tuesday from 9pm on Chance Radio (details below). We do some tunes and chat, while our chums and contributors (including Word regulars Drakey Girl, Hannah, Katy G, Jo DB and Marmite Boy) do most of the work supplying a live scrolling run of comments, natter and salty banter.

The earliest podcasts, just called Podrophenia - are a mate (Piley)and myself doing an hour(ish) of unscripted rattling in my kitchen.

In June this year we had a lucky break and were asked to take the idea onto a local internet radio station Chance (which goes FM soon-ish). So any titled Radio Podrophenia, are the newer ones - and recordings of the live radio shows as they happen. Including the tech agg, mis-cued tracks and wonky jingles.

We're also on Facebook - where you can catch all the tracklistsings, photos and meet other Podrophenia bods..

Last Tuesday's should be up tomorrow, but I'll buzz an early link here

Thanks for your comments - it really does warm the ol' cockles

Thanks

Many thanks for the information Mondo, I'll try and catch the live show, although often rehearse on a Tuesday evening. I have a good supply of old shows to listen too, keep up the good work. Certainly brightens up these grey afternoons! I'll have a look at the Facebook link later.

Sarfend-based horror

Mondo, in the Peel 'cast the other week you mentioned a book you were reading by a local authoress?

Can you do me a favour and remind me who it was and what the book was called?

Ta matey!

The Drowning Pool ~ Syd Moore

I finished it in a week. It's possibly the most accomplished first novel I've ever read. The best of classic horror traditions {Lovecraft,Bram Stoker even Thomas Hardy's Withered Arm}. And if you're local: Leigh, Southend you'll connect straight away. If not, you'll want to visit..

Or 99p on Kindle

If you're close to London, Syd's doing a live reading next week, here

Dates and details.

I've been to some Plectrum live events before: a Biba evening, a Rock and Roll special with Max Decharne another with Cathi Unsworth reading from Bad Penny Blues - and they're always a treat.

Syd did a local reading a couple of weeks back. Which was spooky to the point that someone in the audience screamed..so should be a goody this Thursday.

Radio Podrophenia is a funky little beauty.

And always contains some musical nuggets.

And while we're on the subject of radio shows involving talented members of the Massive, may I also recommend Why The Long Face? - a show which features our very own skirky. If you like the Rocking Vicar podcasts, or Radcliffe & Maconie, you'll like this.

It's on Ipswich Community Radio (http://www.icrfm.co.uk/) on Thursday nights, between 10pm and 12pm. You can listen live online, and there's a listen again facility on the site if you can't catch it on the night.

Podropheinds

Great to see Podrophenia getting a mention on these pages. It is a top 1 and 30 minutes ish (Mondo and Piley nearly always run over) of obscure and interesting music and fine banter (Drakeygirl is the Queen of the alternative song title). We do sometimes just end up talking rubbish on the forum but it is a great laugh.

I have been a avid listener since the very first podcast and was lucky enough to be a guest on the Christmas show a couple of years back. It is a great way to spend a Tuesday evening.

Thanks to Drakey for the link. I shall give it a listen.
