Question for Mr. Lewry

art vanderlay's picture

Would it be possible to put a next page 'button' at the top of the thread.

I only ask because on mobile devices it can take some time for the first page to load and scroll before you can click the one at the bottom and sometssmyou only want to check updates. Not a big deal but of you could fix it for me.....

I'll add it to the to-do list

With a bit of luck I'd expect it to be implemented by early 2017.

Another question for mr lewry

Do you ever not watch the blog? Or indeed sleep? :)

daddyclark | 20 January 2012 - 9:37pm

Yes, and yes

I'm currently working on a way to do both at the same time.

And another thing

The new posts aren't flagged on page 2 of comments. Can this be done? First world problem, I know

That's a toughie

The way the pagination works makes that a very difficult fix. So again, it's on the list, but don't hold your breath.

What Mark said below

Thanks Fraser, it works really well but hey, there's always room for improvement

Dolphin

In the meantime, have you tried using the Dolphin Browser. I use the Android version and there are gestures that allow you to zoom to the bottom of the page and back up to the top.

Another question for Mr. Lewry:

Has anyone ever said 'Thank you' for doing such a great job on this site? 'Cos you are...

I'm still eternally grateful

for the yellow highlighted new! sign. That was a game changer.

Agree

Made the quick update much quicker.

Forgot that's a recent innovation, feels like they have been there for ever.

Here's a picture of a woman fondling a huge cock.

While we are here...

Can you fix it for me please to have it so that when you click on a link a new tab pops up rather than opening in the same tab as Word?

0

That's not going to happen

You should always be in control of how your browser behaves, and choosing a new tab or window should be your choice, not one forced upon you by the people who built the site you're visiting. If you'd prefer to load external content in new tabs or windows, great, you can do it yourself using keyboard shortcuts/right-clicks easily enough... but the choice should always be yours.

Also: clicking the "back" button is the second most commonly performed action within a browser (the first is clicking a link). Load content in a new tab, and you break the back button, removing the second most popular navigation path.

Agreed

I agree with the basis of your argument however I'm not sure about the theory concerning the back button.
Having watched a lot of people use browsers I find it amazing the number that still don't make use of the tabs. If everyone opened a new tab when it was likely they might return to, say an index page or a search result page then maybe the second most performed action might be the close button on a tab. I'm sure it is for me.
Most Windows users can easily configure the click-wheel to open a new tab and most laptop glidepads allow you to "nominate" a corner of the pad to do the same job. It's really frustrating watching someone do a Google search, click a link, then go back and try another rather than simply open a few links in new tabs and then look at them one by one.
The only time I tend not to open new tabs is when I'm mobile browsing but that's only because the action of opening a new tab isn't a simple click..... and I'm lazy!

OK, thanks

The reason I asked is that when I click the link and it opens on same tab, when that ends I click 'back' and all the "New!" signs are gone so I cannot notice the newer posts. Anyway, not a problem really, just wondered. Thanks.

It shouldn't do

The arrows should only disappear if the page is refreshed. Returning to it via the back button doesn't do this.

0
Fraser Lewry | 23 January 2012 - 8:04pm

Oh yes so it does

I dunno what I had been doing. Sorry, I have wasted your time there.

0
kb | 23 January 2012 - 8:19pm

You haven't

I had to check myself. Now I know for sure.
