Pure DAB 1500 - Advice/Opinions Please

John_Black's picture

I bought a Phillips personal DAB a couple of years back but frankly it's rubbish in regards of the signal.

Any movement and the signal suffers, I'm not in a weak area either.

I've heard that the Pure is the mutt's

All advice/insults/suggestions welcome

3 Pure DABs in our house

All great. Even the cheapo 'One' - about £35 from Tesco.

Thanks KB

I know static ones (in house) are good, I have a Pure in the bedroom (insert joke here).

I'm after a personal one and my past experience with the Phillips wasn't great.

Pure DAB 1500

I've used a 1500 just about every weekday for the past three or four years, commuting by motorcycle and bicycle. It's never let me down and I've yet to replace the battery despite charging after every use. Battery life is probably about three hours, tops. I only ever use it to listen to speech radio, so I can't really comment on sound quality. Reception in London is pretty-much blanket, apart from a few holes around Notting Hill/Holland Park.

I've four other Pure DAB radios: a One in each of the kitchen and the camper van; a Flow in the bedroom and an Oasis in the middle bathroom. They've all been faultless.

Thanks for the advice

So you don't encounter any disruption to the signal when you're "on the move" ?

Sounds just what I'm after, thanks again.

No problem

I've used mine pretty-much exclusively while riding a motorcycle or a bicycle in town. The only significant drop-off in signal I experience is on Westbourne Grove and at the end of Westbourne Park Road, down on to Cornwall Crescent. (I hasten to add that I live in dark east London and am not some west London ponce - though I do work here for my sins.

I used it once on the motorway and it was a waste of time, but this is the same of most DAB receivers at the moment, I believe.

Let us know how you get on.

Will do

Mostly for out and about (walking or at the football)

I'll try it in my car (aux) but not expecting great things due to the constant movement. If I get a decent reception around town then it's a bonus.

Pure Highway

for the car. Drops out occasionally but not often enough to be annoying. Never tried the others in the car but the dedicated aerial for the Highway obviously helps

Pure Move

We got one of these for my father in law and he was so chuffed with it that I got one for myself. Small enough to fit in a big pocket but large enough to have its own speaker, and the battery life is superb - I use it for maybe a few hours a week and charge it every other month or so. Haven't used it on the move so much but the FiL says it works fine at the footy.

Thanks Malc

I've looked at the "Move" but prefer the "1500"

Thanks for the heads up

Where did the time go?

Have had the predecessor model of portable for what must be nearly a decade now, and still very satisfied; likewise a variety of other Pure models.

I've got a Pure DAB pluggy-inny iPod thingy.

Which works very well. And also lasts well given the ravenous power consumption of DAB devices.

My Nokia N8 has a DAB gizmo on-board, but it needs a special DAB cable. Both, however, work very well. Apart from the power-drain problem..
