Punk Walks
Posted by musters on 12 November 2010 - 5:02pm.
This may be the best idea (I've) ever (come up with). Punk Walks is a very simple concept. You take a walk, listen to a punk album and then report back to base. This may be obvious but there are three main benefits arising from this:
1/ A respite from the endless Midlake. Really, who is allowed to listen to punk at home?
2/ A healthy, fresh walk to get the heart and mind going.
3/ A chance to hone your writing skills and share your experience with likeminded folks.

Passing Musters
B-b-but I like Midlake - three flute action et al - and punk flipping rock! Is that inherently contradictory? That said, I'm about to stick on the Newtown Neurotics - surburban concrete-clad angst ahoy
Newtown Neurotics
I'm commissioning you to do a punk walk on them, Paul.
My lunchtimes, weather permitting...
already involve a 40 minute walk along the Thames across a bridge and back again - it's my time to try and catch up with an album all the way through (something I found I rarely did anymore).
Obviously, as The Word Blog's token Punk Rocker, my general listening does involve a healthy dose of shouty music, but I find my Discharge or Black Flag collection don't really suit the rural Thameside idyll, eating my sandwiches on the Banks of the River after a nice brisk walk, whereas something like Teenage Fanclub (or Midlake) does.
But I like the idea and I am going up in the loft to get down some Newtown Neurotics, haven't listened to them in ages!
None, as such (what is this for?)
Superb. I eagerly await your contribution, my friend.
Make that 2 token Punk Rockers
In the spirit of Punk Walks, I did walk the dog the other day whilst listening to the Dead Kennedys.
Managed to hold back the urge to sing/shout along until Holiday In Cambodia. I did receive a number of odd looks, particularly from the local chavs hanging around the park bench (I think they live there, I've never seen then leave the place)
Bedtime for Democracy
Was the DK album I PW'd. Against all odds I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Make that three
Blimey, this feels loke the Magnificent Seven. Bagsy being Robert Vaughan's character.
Since I live near Crass, would be rude not to disinter one of their songs next. (Calling it a tune might be pushing it...)
Four...
It's a Lurkers retro theme I'm on at the moment.
Lurkers
I'm planning on doing a God's Lonely Men PW next week. Unless you want the gig Doug?
Bum Leg..
(TMFTL) I'm rather hobbling at the moment due to a past blood clot so shall leave it to you. Just finished reading Esso's book though and that made me go through the old stuff again.
Not sure about the new GLM stuff, will have to give it another go.
that link doesn't seem to work
or has Fraser adjusted it ?
tsk, pesky kids think THEY invented punk rock, same as every wave of teenagers thinks THEY invented taking drugs and listening to weird music.
Whoops
It's working now.
