pulp glastonbury 1995 -smokin'

Junior Wells's picture

picked up the deluxe copy of different class. The extra disc opens with common people at glastonbury in 1995.

What a cracker of a performance.

Yep

You'll struggle to find a better performance from Glasto, I was there and it was incredible. Very much in the 'right time and right place' category.

I remember watching that live on the Television

And thinking that those who were there were never going to forget it. I also remember having a shivers-down-the-spine moment at that wonderful camera shot from the desk tower of the mosh pit going mental.

Quality very-out-of-tune fiddle as well.

Me too.

In fact, I remember the sheer joyousness of it bringing tears to my eyes as I watched it on the telly.
I cannot imagine that Jarvis has experienced anything on stage quite so perfect as those 8 minutes when Pulp were finally where they wanted to be, and having the time of their lives - with every single person in the crowd completely on their side. Glorious.

slightly different perspective...

I was there as well, and it was a good show, but didn't get the same reception as real career making shows like Orbital 94 or Radiohead 97.

I think that there is some revisionist stuff now claiming it as a "legendary" performance.

Some blokes stood behind me were shouting that they were there for The Stone Roses and wanted their money back.
Did a simple bike accident change the course of British music ?

I think it was the fact

that it was one of the first sets that Channel 4 broadcast in almost its entirety and those who weren't there were transfixed by Jarvis' performance on the screen

Might not have been like that for some of the people standing in a field but was a revelatory moment for many at home. Back of the net.

They never put a foot wrong for me

Jarvis is definitely in it for the love of it and I think that always showed, (for my money he's the best lyricist of his generation, certainly after Moz descended into self parody post Smiths). A national treasure if ever there was one.

Heineken Free Festival 2005

Pulp headlined at Heineken Free Festival in Leeds the month after Glastonbury and were sensationally good.
Different Class is flawless - quality songs, one after the other.
