Just added to emusic are the last couple of Julian Cope albums, You Gotta Problem Wth Me and Black Sheep. Anyone who’s given up on the man musically over the last ‘challenging’ decade should get back on board.
He seems to have reined himself in a touch and is back treading that fine line between bonkers self-indulgence and skewed pop that made his early 90s so fine. Not quite Peggy Suicide or Jehovahkill but close. Really very good, particularly Black Sheep. Good to have him back.

sorry he lost me again

we went to see him at latitude but he dicked around behind a sheet for 40 mins and then ranted at the audience about william blake or something for the rest of the set. So I've wasted enough of my time with the hippy no mark (oh and he can loose the Nazi hat as well)

Oh dear

I'd better avoid the current live experience then.
Shame because he played possibly the best concert I've ever seen at the Town & Country Club around the time of Jehovahkill.

Was that the "3 Ages Of Cope"?

1st set Teardrop Explodes, 2nd set acoustic, 3rd set Peggy Suicide & Jehovahkill? Can't remember the exact name of that tour but it was excellent, albeit probably too much Cope in one sitting...

I'm another who's lost the plot with JC for a while - I love his books and his attitude, but he just got to be too much hard work after 20 Mothers, and life's too short, but I'll give Black Sheep a try and see what he's up to...

That's the one

I was completely obsessed at the time so even 3 hours or so of the man didn't seem quite enough...

Black Sheep is great, I agree.

No matter how weird and way out he gets there's no denying he can still write a damn fine tune!

I can see Chris G's point though, you never quite know what you are going to get, last time I saw him at the Royal Festival Hall it was a great full on rock show, excellent set list and band.
I'm going to see him there again in a couple of weeks I hope we don't get him prancing around in a tutu playing a banjo!
