The record label that brought us Oasis and not a lot else* feature heavily on BBC4 tonight. Please feel free to post Creation related propaganda in the post below.

I hope they do lots about Velvet Crush and Hurricane #1.
Bet they don't, though.
The Creation Records Story
I worked in A&R for a film/video company (still do, but was at a different one back then) when the director was touting this around trying to get a DVD deal. He was adamant that every one of Oasis's fans would want to buy a copy. Naturally, as they've sold multi-million albums, he was one his way to megabucks and I had him on the phone for what seemed like a whole afternoon as he told me so. I could hear the falling of his crest when he was given predicted sales of fewer than 10k, which has, unhappily for him, come to pass.
Revised title
"Upside Down: Alan McGee's Version Of The Creation Records Story".
A documentary not helped by the need for subtitles during at least a third of it.
Sleeve Credit!!
The only one I ever got for my impressive works as a studio engineer.

*as I may have whispered earlier on twitter, making tea and cleaning tape heads. oh and punching in some tambourine overdubs.*
**EDIT**
Ooh look there's a pic of the actual sleeve here:

The most memorable thing about the session was the sight of Alan McGee visibly vibrating because he was apparently so off his face during the playback. Scary.
Apart from that, the drums coming in after the quiet start were supposed to sound, like a lot recordings in the spring of 92, like the drums on Teen Spirit. And the spacey effects in the middle were done by the guitarist rubbing his jumper up and down the guitar strings. The drummer wore shorts in the studio and Dodgy were upstairs at the same time recording an early EP. They were a lot more fun it has to be said.
Adorable
Huge news in student bars in Lancaster University, summer 1992.
That tune at least. Did they do any others?
Couple of albums
Worth checking out, if a little 2nd division Indie. Plus they were a little too 80s Indie for the times really looking back.
seen it
It's very good, well worth watching although Oasis obviously dominate the latter half. That's a shame as everyone knows the story of Oasis and we all know Noel's views on life, the universe and everything. It would be far more interesting to see and hear the music and history of the other acts on the roster. What strikes you when The Oasis hove into view, is how lumpen and actually quite dull their blokey stadium rock is compared to the rest of Creation's more wibbly and Psychedelic output.
I thought that too
I like(d) Oasis but there's a point in the Creation Records doco where there's concert footage of first album-era Ride.
They look great and they're doing their own musical thing (well, maybe filched a little off My Bloody Valentine, let's be honest...). Next thing Oasis turn up and even Ride are trying to be a 1960s retro band.
The doco made me want to go back and listen to old Ride albums, not Oasis albums. And do you know something? The early EPs and first two albums (Nowhere, Going Blank Again) are still fantastic.
They're often maligned for being a shoegazing band but I really think Ride were a bit better than that. Andy Bell - what happened to you?! (Oasis and Beady Eye, that's what).
Yes I'd forgotten how good early Ride were
Oasis were the big hitters, but it's bands like Ride, Slowdive, Teenage Fanclub, Felt etc. that are having a more lasting influence. They're the bands that younger folk pick up and get inspired by.
Whatever happened to Idha?
Didn't she become Mrs Andy Bell,
amongst, I assume, other things?
Three Words
Super.Furry.Animals. Wonderful band.
One word -
Arnold !!!!!
Sadly missing in action. Where are you now guys?
I bought that album on the strength of a review.
An Observer Music Monthly review.
What a load of tepid old wank it turned out to be. Three plays, five years in the CD rack, then off to the Sue Ryder shop.
Noooooo!
Oh well - you can't win em all! YMMG etc.
"If looks could kill I'd kill the man whose looks would kill...
you if looks could kill"
I can think of absolutely nothing......
....that is remotely likeable about Alan McGee.
On the compilation show
afterwards didn't 'D'yer Know What I Mean' remind you of why Oasis quickly became stale. What a terrible song performed by five people so obviously coked up their own arses.
I am no anti drug drum beater but as far as coke goes I think it's evil stuff and that performance highlighted its arrogance perfectly.
Would love to have worked in Creation for the pill parties though.
