Prisoner remake

If you're interested, here's a preview of the new, US-made series. Kind of interesting, but it's not clear from this whether they're bringing anything new to the table…

I'm not sure about this
If it's not set in Portmeirion then it's lost something. This was filmed in Namibia, and about two years ago too. It's taken ages to come round, but I hear it's due on ITV this winter.
Namibia
Must be the new New Zealand. Generation Kill was shot there too.
It's made in conjunction with ITV
When i find out when it's being broadcast i will let you know...
This is a teaser site for it...I've no idea what it's meant to do...but here it is...anyway

yeap
I can't make head or tail of that, any pointers to the trailer?
Number Six
If it ain't Tricia Helfer, I ain't gonna watch.
I like the massive "Rover"
And I'm cautiously optimistic on the basis it's from AMC, who do "Mad Men." I'm also encouraged that it's a mini-series, so hopefully it'll have an actual ending rather than just go on forever.
Ending? You want an ending?
Actually, one of the things I love about the original is that it doesn't tie everything up in some neat but prosaic way. That final episode is pure iconoclastic genius. Don't imagine they'll dare do that with this one.
Ahead of it's time
The original Prisoner could have been designed for the internet age. You can imagine the fun they could have had with decoy sites, and the intensity of the talk-board discussions. It also foresaw series like Lost and Heroes by being a plotless, rambling, they're-making-it-up-as-they-go-along mess, but strangely watchable at the same time.
Yes
but the Prisoner is like that because McGoohan was forced to make ten episodes more than the seven he wanted to make. Consequently, much of it necessarily does little to advance the arc.
Gravitalf
Why do they always drag Srian McKellen in for these roles? S'ben Kingsley needs the work!
Portmeirion
I went to Portmeirion last year - stayed in the village overnight in fact. I switched on the telly in my room and the first episode of The Prisoner was showing. Amazing coincidence I thought, before I realised it was the in-house video link, beamed from reception. Just for a moment though I was number 6.
While we're geeking out...
here's the trailer for the new Tron as well. A lot simpler than The Prisoner but, well, Fraser and I liked it.
US made? The Prisoner? Remake?
Tell me this is an elaborate hoax from some sadistic sick humoured subgroup of The Massive. Tell me I'm hallucinating. Don't, please, let this be true.
A friend of mine
who was offered the director's chair on this about 4 years ago when it was with Sky turned it down with the words 'i don't want a poisoned chalice' and cos she loves the original for all the accentric Englishness and inventiveness. Why try and simply retread that old ground? It doesn't look like they have deviated that far from the script
SirIan would have made a marvellous Number 2 in the original series. The feeling I got from the trailer was like watching the 'Hitchikers' film with all your favourite scenes appearing before you but somehow not as good as you remember.
Be seeing you
It's "Number Six" to you...
not "Six".
And I counted just two blazers in 9 minutes of trailer. Not a good sign.
And where's the Lotus 7? Call this a remake?
Gratuitous Beatles reference
7.08-7.12:
Is Number Six the One After 909?
I found I didn't have time for The Prisoner in 1982
Despite viewing being deemed compulsory by elements within the NME. I suspect I'll have even less time for the remake.
It starts Saturday, April 17
Turns out the Village is in Namibia. But I can't decide whether I really want to see it yet. Maybe Pete Townshend or Roger Daltrey could make a guest appearance as 515...
