Pretentious Critic Archetype
Posted by woodface on 27 April 2009 - 7:36pm.
Did anybody else hear that pretencious w*nker who was interviewed along with Gideon Coe on the Today programe this morning. I am not a Dylan fan, but this bloke (his name escapes me sorry but he was from Northern Ireland) raised the bar in terms of sycophantic eulogy. Apparently the recent Dylan punters were 'suffused with joy' and his concerts are an 'act of love'. He continued to crap on about the new album being great and then alluded to his current music continuing the folk/roots tradition as his Bobness produces it himself (as if this is somehow unique!).

Is it
pretentious to criticise your spelling, old chap?
Yes, but
I think the phrase 'to crap on about something' should be applauded.
No, its pedantic.
No, its pedantic.
That should be
'... it's pedantic', if you don't mind.
Very funny
First the spelling police, then the grammer and now punctuation.
You did that
on purpose, didn't you? I'm not biting.
Gavin Martin
That was Gavin Martin, ex-NME.

I quite like him, though he wouldn't shut up this morning.
Nearly ran into Thought for the Day, and we wouldn't want that, now would we?
I think Bobby d is bringing
out the bad speeling it's pact with mistakes rand ere today.
Balls!
We're just reinterpreting the language. After all, who wants to spend good money just to see words spelt as they always have been for heaven's sake?
Moley, baby

But they will. They will
Isnt that Field of Dreams?
If you killed it, they will come
i'm surprised this didn't surface earlier
Gavin Martin appeared to be serious but trying for the Word review award for most cliches in one answer. But the best thing was the whole premise for the "discussion" was whether Dylan played acoustic or electric at the Roundhouse. Well it was established in the first 5 seconds that it was electric and no one seriously thought it would be otherwise. So what?! As has been mentioned before, there is some obsession in the news media with him now. I saw Dylan a few years ago and it was ok but lacking in anything I would normally regard as engaging entertainment. Certainly wouldn't bother again. I really don't know why he does it, other than what else can he do?
What else can he do?
Eric Cantona turned up his collar and got his coat when he hit 30. J.D Salinger decided that was enough novels when he was 32. Jackie Stewart drove his last lap when he was 34.
There comes a point when retiring may not be strictly necessary, but it's probably best for all concerned.
Cantona... finest beard in entertainment.
All he needs to do is make a record and The Word cover beckons...
Cantona...most overrated man in football (& now cinema/car ads)
When compared to Bergkamp, Ronaldo, Messi, Henry, Zidane... Eric Cantona was poor. He has a reputation that far exceeds his talent and worth to a team.
There was a review in the London free paper tonight
It read like a two star review. It was obvious the reviewer didn't really enjoy the gig but hey it's "Dylan" so of course it had to get five stars.
It reminds me of Fall fans who go to gigs and report back about how MES behaved like a wanker to everyone and how great it was.
Ditto Andy Gill in the Indy
The review was lukewarm, to say the least. It was given four stars.
