Pop star privileges revoked?

Reasons to be miserable pt 33?

I’ve jus read an interview with Portishead now it’s no surprise for fans of their music that they aren’t the Rod, Jane and Freddy of trip hop but for Chr***sakes cheer up. It's one long list misery , tortuous recording practices band arguments. The misery and despair is so great that I was thinking of proposing they have their pop star privileges removed for the simple fact that they seem wasted on them.

The corporate side of the biz may be a drag but playing a party in Paris with cold drinks and nice food hardly seems like the lowest circle of hell.

This is an altruistic move as being pop star seems to make Geoff Barrow et al so utterly miserable that they would able to go back to being depressed in everyday life free from the adulation, free drinks, long limbed lovelies and critical acclaim.

Is there anybody else who should be freed from their gilded misery?

The C Word

Portishead are horrible. The sort of people who aren't happy unless they're unhappy. The self same c*&ts who Mr Portis Head loathes so much are the very same bunch who put enough money in his bank account to ensure he didn't have to work or release a record for around 10 years. Here's the new deal - we won't buy any more of your miserable records and you won't have to put up with any of our miserable hard earned money.

Other Offenders

George Michael - he's made it seem such hard work hasn't he - I refer to this week's podcast.
Robbie Williams - stop whining about being unloved ( although he does, on the plus side, seem to have given up for the moment)
Billy Corgan - "Baldy Twat in a dress" - the only time I've EVER agreed with Mrs S. Osbourne.
Metallica - Napster.'nuff said.
May I suggest Word offer a new regular article? "Meet the Public" - where a pop star is quizzed up close and personal by 5 ordinary working people? May I suggest your first interviewee be Peaches Geldof and can I be on the panel?

Your suggestion

presupposes that Peaches Geldof is a pop star.
But otherwise it's a sound idea.

Peaches Geldof!

Yes, you're right, of course. I was aiming for any of those that "blight our consciousness" to paraphrase Bill Hicks. Other pop stars it'd be worth sharing some quality"Meet The Pedestrians" (Copyright - G. Paltrow) time with would be - Alex James, any of the Sugababes..who else?

Grant | 22 June 2008 - 6:37pm

my orginal point

was folk who seem to hate the whole shebang, Alex James for all his faults never whinged about having a bad time quite the reverse.
