Podcast 203: the one where we find out Lady Gaga isn’t a real blonde
Posted by David Hepworth on 11 February 2012 - 3:04pm.

This podcast has lots in it: Mark Ellen taking a blunt instrument to his phone, the debt Madonna’s half-time Superbowl show owed to Elizabeth Tatylor’s quiet entrance into Rome in the movie Cleopatra, the feminizing of pop, the people who’ve made more than one great album, how we know Lady Gaga isn’t a real blonde and the likelihood of a movement like punk getting swallowed up by Facebook. Plus a visit from Dodgy to talk up their new record Stand Upright In A Cool Place, Fraser’s favourite recipe for a warming soup and the cat on the pitch at Anfield. Should be enough to get you home through the snow.

Distracted
The revelation that Lady Gaga's "growler" may not be as blonde as her head, is not, when it comes down to it, such a surprise. But it still distracts me from responsible 'Dad on Saturday' activities. Nor did I need the article in the magazine to talk about her "diaphanous robes", "topless wardrobe inspections", and "tiny crumpled, white thongs". Dear Editor, many of the readership are middle-aged men with waning libidos and our long-suffering wives are no doubt delighted by our less frequent purchases of impractical and over-priced undergarments for them, let alone the (unmet) demands for exotic sexual practices. However, the descriptions provided have rekindled thoughts I had thought long-past. Should you continue in this manner, might I request you combine the magazine with "Razzle" or "Asian Babes"?
Warm in here, isn't it?
Yes - what my namesake said.
Razzle and Asian Babes
That's the second thread I've seen in 10 minutes that mentions Razzle and Asian Babes.
Vincent, there's a cry for help tucked away not very far between the lines...my friend, I would suggest that you "get the juice"...
Genius
Larry David - a man who I fully understand. Next time I'm in Harlesden I'll approach some likely looking youth and ask if they can 'juice me up'. I'm sure they'll understand.
Christ
is that really Lady Gaga on the cover? Not that she offends - why should she? I'm neither gay nor under 13 - both widely acknowledged as her target demographic. As a loyal subscriber I have no choice, but I'll be interested in seeing how many units you guys shift this month.
marketing strategy
maybe a bit more evidence of the 'flimsy thong' on the cover will sell units to more "broad-minded" music fans?
For Fraser
Is there any reason why I shouldn't be getting the latest podcast downloaded? The sub is up to fate and I have pressed Refresh. Would love to know when you have a mo.
Ta.
Assuming you're using iTunes
1. either right-click on the name of the podcast within iTunes and select "Update Podcast", or
2. if there's a little "i" symbol within a circle next to the name of the podcast, click it and and confirm that you want to update
If those don't work, try deleting the feed and re-subscribing.
Scrub that
It looks like the subscription company's server is down, which means that iTunes can't check if your subscription is up-to-date. Try again later - and apologies for the inconvenience.
Thanks.
Thanks, Fraser, will have a go in due course.
And now
it is safely downloaded. Ta once more.
Nope - still hosed...
Hi Fraser, I'm still getting "An internal server error occurred" when I try to update the podcast feed on iTunes. Looks like your service provider's still not got things sorted out...
It's up and down
And has been all day. I'm sure they'll get it sorted.
That ad for Match.com
I have this vision of Mark Ellen serenading Lady Gaga on the opposite railway platform while playing his ukelele - 'she's a natural blonde, no she isn't a natural blonde'...
Just realised
I never received this one! Why might that be?
