Pitch-perfect comedy

It's been mentioned before here, chez nous, but Big Train really was special.
(The actor) Kevin Eldon doing Mao doing Ferry, with a little bit of 'Jet' thrown in for starters; Simon Pegg looking like the ultimate Numanoid on guitar and Mark Heap as Eno.

great sketch
but every view makes me wonder why no effort was made to make Simon Pegg look like Phil Manzenera. Kinda silly for me to try to apply logic to a surrealist sketch show I know, but it's weird the prop dept could provide a Manzenra white Strat but not a basic long haired wig or stick-on beard - especially after the work put into making Mark Heap into Eno. Maybe Pegg was just the last to get to the BBC2 hairpiece box
And the second series
of Big Train fell away dramatically compared to the wonderful first series. They changed several of the actors, which didn't help.
It also has it's place in rock history because...
...one of the sketches (the Shakespeare one) inspired Fran Healy to write Driftwood. The things you learn on commentary tracks.
It's
Arthur Matthews on drums that cracks me up. All drummers that appeared on TOTP from 1971-1975 used to have long hair, chew gum, have an inane grin and then pull a face at the camera. Every single one.
George Martin
That 'Roxy' clip is spot on - and yes, the gurning drummer is genius!
This, from same season is just brilliant, Kevin Eldon does Sir George Martin
Here's the 'Shooting Stars' version...
...featuring Vic Reeves' uncanny Bryan Ferry.
does...
...anybody want to see my monkey impression?
I pathetically boycotted Big Train
even though it had many people I loved writing and starring in it.
Do you know why? Because of this:
Yes, the titles. They used the tune "Big Train" for the theme, and named the show after it. I thought, if it was that good, they'd have at least thought of their own name for the series, and thereby refused to watch it.
Yup, 23 year old me was a stubborn, ridiculous idiot.
Arguably 35 year old me is one too, but let's gloss over that.
