Phone queue background music
Posted by Phil Pirrip on 20 February 2009 - 12:20pm.
I've just been in contact with the Word's subscription people to sign my life away for another year and whilst I was waiting in the phone queue none other than a Christopher Martin and The Coldplayers tune came wafting out of the handset.
Whilst I don't dislike them in small doses, I was just a bit surprised as they're not what I'd call typical Word cover material. So, does anyone out there have any examples of either very appropriate or hugely inappropriate phone queue music they may have come across?

Our help desk at work
plays the theme from Psycho on occasion. Honest.
The Philosopher's Stone rarities collection
by Van Morrison wafted through one companies phone line while I waited. Good mellow music that's worth listening to. A very good choice. Perfect for the job. Word should use it.
F+*K Me Kitten
F+*K Me Kitten at Nildram my old ISP. I was mortified I can tell you!
I fought the law
at a firm of solicitors. They had no idea it was there. Next time I rang back it was The Four Seasons (the overplayed Vivaldi, sadly, and not Frankie Valli's mob)
Phoning my lawyer a few years ago about my impending divorce ...
... and they put on The Supremes - Where Did Our Love Go?
(or maybe that's just an invented memory?)
Girlfriend In A Coma...
didn't quite seem right when I phoned Thomson's Holidays a couple of years ago
My own office regularly plays...
...the Serge Gainsbourg classic J'Taime. A minute or two of Jane Birkin heavy breathing down the blower and I forget what I was calling about.
Is It just me, or...
... does anyone else expect someone to answer when the song ends?
I had a colleague who, when someone finally answered, would say "Oi, I was listening to that!"
Maurice Chevalier
"'S Wonderful"-Maurice Chevalier has been ours for years until last week when it was changed to "Viva la Vida"- Coldplay.
I had no say in this decision
