Paul "Macca" McCartney

When:
Saturday 18th December
Where:
Hammersmith Apollo
Comments:
Since 2001, Macca's been on his version of the never-ending tour: Faultless band, enormogigs and being the dictionary definition of "crowd-pleasing". The chance to see Him in such an intimate venue was a great Christmas present. He sounded in better voice than I recall in recent years - he was actually hitting the high notes. The joy of the gig was offset by the lack of surprise:Blackbird, Something and Here Today were performed with the same patter from when I last saw Macca in 2003. His soundcheck - http://exm.nr/fw53Vy - had a more eye-raising setlist than the main show - http://exm.nr/gSOJKZ When he went off-road with a cover of Hitchhike & a wonderful Wonderful Christmastime, that pleased this uberfan. Obviously I'd go see The Beatle again in a heartbeat. NB: 20 out of 31 songs were Beatlesongs, & 14 of those were album tracks (you know, duff album tracks like A Day In The Life) Amusingly he said those heart-sink words "Here's a new song" right before he ripped into All My Loving.
The Audience:
At the last gig I went to, Vampire Weekend, I seemed to be more of the demographic of the parents outside waiting to pick up their indie teens. Thankfully Macca people are my people. Everyone was happy to be there.
Food & Drink:
MrsDrJ sent me to the bar during the gig - during! - an outrage! £17.50 for 3 white wines and a Guinness.
It Made Me Think...:
I'm a big Maccafan. I'd be happy for an all-solo material gig. Whither Silly Love Songs, No More Lonely Nights, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, Pipes of Peace, or anything from Chaos & Creation or Back to the Egg etc

Nice job DrJ
Pretty much what you said. A magical night all round.
I'd have liked Honey Hush, but you can't win 'em all.
