Entertainment For Lively Minds
Paris at the weekend
Posted by thecolonel on 4 March 2010 - 7:45pm.
Lucky me, I'm off to Paris tomorrow afternoon for the weekend.
The GF is looking to be entertained..
Any Massive members resident there or can help me? Any gigs, cultural events worth attending? Be much obliged if you could help. Merci!

Obvious I know but
always worth getting Pariscope asap (may be on sale at Eurostar on UK side ?)

The other suggestion for "what's on" is FNAC, their web site may be some help

Nice one
thanks Nick
say hello to my mrs will you
She is there for fashion week.
Im at home with the little 'un.
Steely Dan and Word website in the morning. Couple a books and 'Go on, surprise me' i pod playlist in the afternoon.
Bit of writing and two glasses of red in the evening.
Hell.
Your missus
Could well know my missus, who's also there for fashion week, doing makeup, dahling!
Mwah!
Milan, London, New York?
Yup - I often get texts like 'today was alright but I couldnt see anything because Prince wouldnt move his
parasol'
'Finished for the evening, off to a party where Patti Smith, Sonic Youth and Suicide are playing'
Im usually cleaning the bog or trying to find nappies when i get them.
To be honest - A lot of it seems painful but it pays the bills and makes for good pub chat.
She is also very, very closely involved in the 'look' of album covers, videos etc for a certain 'electro pop Diva' who seems to have a few fans round here.
(She isnt a diva at all,by the way. she is really nice and, if she was a bloke would 'have a single minded vision' etc)
all three
and quite often other places far and wide. Shoots for Russian Vogue and Vogue Nippon and Vogue India, blah blah.
Glamorous yes, but to be honest bloody hard work. I often get texts saying, 'exhausted, got a 5 a.m start, off to bed now'.
She also recently did a shoot with said 'diva' and said exactly the same thing. And (the 'diva') walked around the set naked. There's was no debate re; gender after that!
Ive done a bit of freeloading to be honest
'accompanied' on a few trips - last one was Brazil!
and...have to be discreet but...
wrong Diva!
Hmmm
I obviously got the wrong end of the proverbial stick on the diva front...
Last album was 'folky'...
new one is Big haired 80s electro rock
and is ace.
Mr Green
Make it four glasses, and it will be bearable. Trust me, I know.
maybe this ?

Memorable evenings at the Buddha-Bar
I've had several of these, so that's my recommendation. It's located at the Concorde end of the Champs Elysee. Enjoy.

When in Paris in 2004
I walked into a bar on my first night, heard a familiar sound fading in, and realised it was Jeff Buckley's Mojo Pin. I then realised this fantastic, atmospheric, friendly bar was playing the whole of Jeff Buckley's Grace album.
The bar is called Le Fourmi, it between Montmartre and Pigalle, and I would recommend it in a heartbeat
You're off to Paris, Colonel..
And the GF wants to be entertained. I don't know. There's got to be something on the telly. Tell her to go out with her friends or something. Could you rent her a PS3 or a Wii for the weekend?
Hang on.
You're not taking her with you, are you?
Another, different Fourmi (Ailee)
is a favourite spot of ours for a meal if you aren't looking for a blowout [we've no objection to blowouts either].

8 rue Fouarre
In the same part is the now celebrated walk that Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy do in Before Sunset
I'm amused to see that quite a few people are starting to blog the route of this walk e.g.

though once one sees the detail one realises a bit of cinematic license is taken with the real-time aspect ;-)
You might catch this if you're lucky

Granny Flowers!
Brilliant! I think I'll be getting into Grime when I'm in my seventies
I'm actually off tomorrow with the Mrs!
Translating for my mum-in-law for fashion week...Thanks a million for all the recommendations. Will definitely investigate...btw does anyone know if you can smoke in French cafes these days?
Try and find a copy of LYLO
It's a tiny (A6?) fortnightly Paris music guide that the cooler shops will have on a rack (or on the floor) by the door. Pariscope is great, too, but can be hard to find as the current issue gets older. For high-profile gigs, find the nearest big FNAC which will probably have a ticket booth and an easy-to-read calendar of events by the entrance.
No, there's no smoking in public places (inc. cafes) - though there's meant to be lots of flaunting of the rule, I've never seen it happen myself, maybe I go to the wrong places...
Oh damn!
Well thanks for the heads-up Mickey. Don't know how the GLW is going to take it....or me for that matter.
