Painting The White House...

Producer Matt's picture

OK, one of the most momentous elections in US history is nearly upon us. How should the Word Massive mark such a huge event, where a Black man is not only standing for the highest office in America, but (not wishing to jinx him here) stands a pretty good chance of winning?

Surely, a list of US politically themed music is in order?

I'll kick things off with the most obvious;

0

"Funky President" - James Brown

No, I claim the "most obvious" title:

"Television, The Drug of the Nation" - The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy:

Blowfly - First Black President

Warning: Completely, utterly, not-safe-for-work (in fact, almost certainly offensive) lyrical content.

He's Comin' In The Door...

...he said it before;

Producer Matt | 1 November 2008 - 3:04pm

"Black President" - Nas

"If I were President" - The Pharcyde:

0
Nick White | 1 November 2008 - 3:14pm

This

...surely definitive?

Listening to it again after donkey's years it reminds me distinctly of the Sex Pistols, though when this came out John Lydon was still heavily ensconced with his Van Der Graff Generator and Neil Young albums.

Aren't they all full of gas?

Confused by the American system?
1970's cartoon "Schoolhouse Rock" explains all....
The history lesson - "No More Kings":

The politics lesson - "Three-Ring Government":

The economic lesson - "Tyrannosaurus Debt":

(Plenty more where this came from...)

Beat Me To It, Lucas

But no matter...

As it's coming up to that time of year

And also, the great David Byrne's take on it all

And any discussion of U.S. politics and music cannot help but mention Neil Young

Talking of JFK

Anyone remember Adam & The Ants 'Catholic Day'?

No more messing 'round
Playing with Monroe
No more turning on
The middle aged ladies
All I remember
Was his sporty
young hairstyle
All I remember
Was the catholic day
