Distracting pop quiz thingy. 15 minutes to guess Australia's favourite 100 songs. Regular bloggers may want to go straight to question 44. That's enough clues.

I scored 40 and used the full time. I expect you all to do better than this.

Only just...

...43. The time ran out before I could a type a 44th. I don't think I'd have got many more even if I could type properly.

After about seven minutes but then I couldn't think of anymore at all.

That's hard, especially if you don't know a single song by Tool, You Am I or Modest Mouse. Very few Aussie groups on the list. Where were Goanna, Mondo Rock, Cold Chisel, The Models or Australian Crawl, to name but a few?

And some of the years were wrong too, which also threw me.

I don't get this obsession with Elton's Tiny Dance. Pre Almost Famous, it was known only to those who owned his albums, surely. Now I think most people think it was a single. I don't really like it.

Nick Cave, Silverchair

the ones I'd heard of. Hilltop Hoods, Hunters & Collectors and Powderfinger all appear to have passed me by.

Though it probably helps that I was an avid Triple J listener when I was out there.

And Gav - Powderfinger are simply wonderful. If you want an introduction, I recommend Odyssey #5. Just checked Spotify but they're not on there at all...

Powderfinger

Just checked a couple of You Tube clips. I think I may have heard My Happiness before actually. I've been listening to the HJHs all day so may need to cleanse the aural palette before investigating them further. 55 is a pretty strong showing, colour me impressed!

49 - used all the time

With some of the bands I got lucky with the only song of theirs I knew (can't think of an example now but there were a few). I would have made 50 but I typed Where Is My Head instead of Where Is My Mind for the pixies and Close to You instead of Close To Me for the Cure.

That was fun! Like ltv above, I had a Stones/Beatles block, so I guess I would have got a few more with more time.
