Orange Juice - Coals to Newcastle

Four Eyes's picture

At last - a definitive Orange Juice box set is coming this way in November. Some of these albums have been unavailable for way too long:

The box set comes out barely 6 weeks after the release of Edwyn Collins' seventh solo album:

I'm sure I'm not the only Massive member who finds this heartwarming.

From the Rough Trade website...

'losing sleep', the seventh album from former orange juice frontman (and 'a girl like you' hitmaker) edwyn collins is the scottish indie legend's first album written since recovering from two brain hemorrhages in 2005. the album features collins co-writing tunes with contemporaries (johnny marr, roddy frame of aztec camera) and progeny (franz ferdinand's alex kapranos and nick mccarthy, the cribs' ryan jarman, the drums, and the magic numbers' romeo stodart).

The 'A girl like you' hitmaker, eh? I detect the hand of one of the Massive.

This is indeed excellent news!

Interesting use of the word "progeny"

which suggest Edwyn has, erm, got around a bit.

Are the albums being reissued individually too

for anyone casually curious?

Dissenter

OJ were never as good on Polydor/HCI as they were on Postcard, "Rip It Up" notwithstanding. Let's hope the box set is heavier on the earlier stuff...

Track List

Melrose (or is it Ape...?), there's a complete tracklist on the Domino website. Seems to be pretty much everything they ever recorded, including (as track 4 on CD1) a live version of Felicity that was:

included in some early editions of Postcard 7" 80-1 as a flexi-disc and also available in issue 5 of the Ten Commandments fanzine. The original master tape for this recording (which was a live cassette bootleg recorded by Malcolm Ross) was unable to be located, so a high-quality recording was taken from one of the original flexi-discs and has been included for anthropological purposes.

I'm guessing it's as heavy on the early stuff as it could possibly be!

Can't wait...

... even though I've already got everything he's ever done including the Postcard singles. My all time hero and the perfect gentleman. He was great the other night at the 100 Club.
