Oooh it just got legal

Chimney Singing Cheryl Cole's picture

Looks like Liam has finally had enough of his brother's carping and has left him to face the awful majesty of the law...

Ooh, sometimes

I completely forgot that Andy Bell was called Andy Bell and wondered why the bloke from Erasure and Noel were even friends in the first place.

JoLean | 19 August 2011 - 2:39pm

So did i.

I was ready to rush to the defence of a national treasure. But seeing as it's that bloke from out of The Ride, fuck 'im!!

Pity the Judge who has to sit through that

It would be better on Judge Judy.

1
Jed Clampett | 19 August 2011 - 2:38pm

Didn't John Lydon

Go on that show a few years back to settle some Sex Pistols business?

0
Chimney Singing... | 19 August 2011 - 2:41pm

he did indeed

0
DogFacedBoy | 19 August 2011 - 2:50pm

haha

he just can't help himself can he?

Like the Judge though ... "Sir, when you are winning the best thing to do is shut up!"

0
Jed Clampett | 19 August 2011 - 3:12pm

Inevitable

...it's just Liam trying to copy the Beatles again, innit?

BigE | 19 August 2011 - 2:53pm

This is in no way related to...

...Beady Eye's 1st record's disappointing sales, or Noel's imminent new record.

And you'd be a fool and a cynic to think otherwise.

Two steps to continue to generate publicity ...

.. at precisely the right moments. Despite the clear fact that you are producing nothing more than disposable twaddle in terms of musical output ..

1• Introduce a press conference at the launch of one musical project with the words "let battle commence..:"

2• Wait a whole six weeks later, until the imminent launch of another musical project of crushing predictability. And then take legal action. Thereby continuing the pre-announced battle.

Then again, this is all possibly undue credit. That Liam is a bit of dope, I'm sure he didn't think of it.

There are two possibilities that I can foresee here...

1. Noel and Liam begin an interminable series of court cases that drive a stake through any remaining shred of affection that lingers between them and thereby prevents Oasis from ever reforming.

2. After an interminable series of court cases Noel and Liam realize that they're both completely skint and reform Oasis to make some money.

Here's hoping the first becomes an eventuality.

Oh you are a bad man

Imagine if you thought that Roger Hodgson was never going to rejoin Supertramp! To the corner Mr Crowther!

0
Springer Bell | 19 August 2011 - 6:45pm

I couldn't care less whether he does or not...

as I have no interest in seeing them now. Supertramp ceased to exist in 1983 as far as I'm concerned and a new record would be inevitably be shit. I base this on having heard bits from Roger Hodgson's solo records, which frankly put the 'p' into 'pants'.

Patrick Crowther | 19 August 2011 - 7:01pm

You know thats not true

Especially when Gilbert O'Sullivan is second on the bill you old curmudgeon!

0
Springer Bell | 19 August 2011 - 7:27pm

Please God not

or we will be exposed to the horror of 2.

0
LastRoseofSummer | 24 August 2011 - 2:06pm

I'd forgotten how foolhardy

It can be to bring up Oasis here...

0
Chimney Singing... | 19 August 2011 - 5:03pm

my take on this?

Basically a good English rock band with attitude and choons. I loved their earlier stuff and the odd song since. And they were the dogs bollocks live.

Assuming they do get back together one day, 10 years from now they would make a few bob on the nostalgia circuit. But whether they do reform or not will not exactly have me pacing up and down the bedroom scratching my head at 3.00 am in the morning!

rocker43 | 19 August 2011 - 5:34pm

I saw them 4 times

And they were great each time. The albums after the second however.....

0
Springer Bell | 19 August 2011 - 6:46pm

Can't we just

hellicopter them to a remote island and let battle royale commence.

*TV execs titted on coke! This is the intellectual property of D.B.Parkes and cannot be used without permission and/or a lorryload of wonga!*

Mad fer it!!

I'm backing Noel...

I don't really care who's right and who's wrong, I just can't stand Liam. It's his brother who seems to have the bulk of the talent, anyway.

I can understand it, to an extent. The fact that the rest of them are all still together and Noel is out suggests that perhaps he's not been telling the truth (as does the statement in the above link) and they're probably sick of it.

Noel is by far the most entertaining though and I'm looking forward to his two new albums.

Deeper causes

When you go back through any Oasis interview, particularly in the last five years or so, Noel can't stop saying pretty unpleasant things about Liam. Before the split, Liam didn't really give much back. A lot of the things Noel said have stuck and have coloured public perception of Liam.

Here's an example: at the iTunes festival at the Roundhouse in London a couple of years ago, Metro reported that Liam had stormed off stage in a rage, disappointing an audience full of fans and leaving Noel to carry the gig. Noel concurred saying that it was unprofessional. It turns out that it was the standard break in the show where Noel sung a couple of songs and nothing to do with Liam being angry or otherwise. Metro had to issue an apology, but it must have upset Liam that his brother couldn't have helped to clear up the story, choosing instead to play up to the idea that Liam is unprofessional and has no respect for the fans.

That must have hurt and built up a lot of resentment - now they're not in the same band, Liam probably feels that he's had enough. I suspect that stories like this lie behind Noel's suggestion that Liam thinks he 'controls the media'.

Noel seems to revel in the fact that he's the more popular brother and gives an eager press loads of titbits for them to continue to portray Liam as a twat. Admittedly Liam doesn't help himself sometimes, but most people who've met him (sober!) would agree that he's a charming bloke. He bought me and my friend several rounds of drinks and sung my favourite La's song ('Over') into my ear.

Anyway, I like having two sets of Gallagher records to buy, it means they come along with more frequency. 'The Death of You and Me' has grown on me like fungus. I played it fifteen or sixteen times in a row last night.

Chimney Singing... | 24 August 2011 - 12:25pm

I think you're probably right there

The harsh comments do seem to come from Noel much more than Liam.

I enjoyed seeing Beady Eye in March and will be attempting to get some Noel tickets tomorrow.

0
kidpresentable | 24 August 2011 - 12:42pm

I agree

As much as I like Noel, he definitely uses his superior intellect to belittle Liam and make him look like the bad guy. Agree re: The Death of You & Me too. I even like the b-side, which the Oasis sceptics on here might like to know features the word rain 10 times and the word sunshine 18.

Redressing the balance

If you have a read of Tony McCarroll's book - your views on Noel and Liam will never be the same. Fascinating stuff, as unpromising as it may look.

Chimney Singing... | 24 August 2011 - 1:11pm

Cheers

Will keep an eye out for it. Mark E Smith is another who has praised Liam, whilst slagging off Noel.

2
Spartacus Mills | 24 August 2011 - 1:26pm

Oh really?

Not heard that - will have a look around.

The view in the TM book is that Liam is an uncomplicated man who says what he thinks - sometimes this upsets people but you know where you stand. He will stand up for his friends (most of whom are the same as he grew up with) and what he thinks is right.

Noel comes across as scheming, manipulative and two faced.

Obviously, Noel fired TM so he's not going to get the glowing write up, but it's interesting to see a different side of the brothers to the public image.

Anyway, both give great interviews though and it's not like I'm having dinner with either of them so I guess it doesn't really matter.
